Thoughts On Spec & Price
Discussion
Hi,
I’ve been on the lookout for a specific 488 for quite some time now.
A 488 has popped up on PistonHeads that I really like.
Do you think this is reasonable priced for the spec?
This would be my first Ferrari after many Porsche’s, so I haven’t dealt with a Ferrari dealership before. I’m not interested in haggling over a car of this stature, however I would like to know if Ferrari are likely to move at all on the price, or should one consider the advertised price with most Ferrari dealerships, ‘the price’?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry, what I mean is... some manufactures don’t tend to offer any form of a discount on their advertised price... i.e - Porsche in Dublin.
They literally won’t give €10 off a €190,000 car, and i know several people in ireland who walked away from Porsche because of this.
If a brand operates like this, then that is fine, it’s their product... take it or leave it.
So if Ferrari do tend to give a discount off their listed price, I would like to know... and if they do, what is the average discount they usually give.
Again, my Range Rover dealership always give me a 9.5% discount. I don’t haggle with them. I also don’t haggle with Porsche.
What is the lay of the land in the UK and particularly with Ferrari (there is no Ferrari dealership in Ireland)

Will you get a discount ? you most certainly will, what is the average discount ? there are too many variables to say, how long have they had the car in stock, is it on SOR, did they steal it from the seller, was it a fire sale, was it a part ex ?
What we can say is the car market is on it's backside and there are deals to be done, bid low and work your way up I would offer £200k and be prepared to walk you might be pleasantly surprised !
Good luck

That's a nice car. I do think the 488 looks really good in argento and also grigio silverstone. Also not a fan of the standard seats but if you like them and can get comfortable in them then that's all that matters. Have you calculated the discount over list? You should definitely bid low in the current market. The worst that can happen is that they say no, and you can then come back in with a higher offer if it is the car for you.
I'm personally not a fan of silver on the 488 and it may put some people off on resale, but that's a purely personal preference. I agree on the seats though. The combination of silver and standard seats means I wouldn't buy it unless it was cheap. However, these things are a indulgence so if those aren't issues for you and the price is right, go for it. No harm in asking for a discount, usually not much but these are unpredictable times for supercar sales.
Since you mentioned Porsche Dublin, are you intending to import into Ireland? Do you have any idea about what the VRT charge will be?

Thanks all.
I don't get the seats thing? :-) When I specced a 488 (before Ferrari said they stopped production), I chose the standard seats.
Yes, the VRT is €191,000 which makes the 488 almost a €500,000 car. People in the UK don't realise how lucky they have it :-)
However I am based in the UK for the next while, so I won't be importing the car into Ireland :-)

Good stuff. I'd hate to voluntarily help the Revenue that much (which is why there are so few F cars in Ireland).
On the seats, the carbon race seats (in my opinion) look fantastic, and they are supremely comfortable on a long haul and grippy and perfectly set up for track work. They are the one extra I would put first actually.

I agree with others that the Racing seats woulds be the first box I would tick as an option. I discounted every car that had standard seats, but we are all different and go with what you like personally, but it may make the car a bit harder to sell in the future.
I bought a low mileage one owner car before Christmas when the market was definitely dead and got £13k off the advertised price after a week of haggling. I had watched the market for 4-6 weeks checking which cars were moving (very few) and told the dealer this. In the end they took a lose on the car as they wanted some cars moved out before the end of December, but I do feel that as we enter Spring and the nicer weather that prices will firm up a little bit.

I was offered £15k less than last year on a possible p/ex by a dealer on another car. Perhaps it's over egging it to say "substantial" but its certainly noticeable (to me anyway). I was also told that a lot of prices have come back, so now would be a good time to put in an offer in my view if there is something that takes your fancy. The worst that can happen is that they say no.

This one is also 2018, marginally higher mileage, but £17k lower price. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Main difference in spec seems to be the lack of the CF exterior package compared to the silver car. What options are you keen on?
