Early Christmas Present
Discussion
5 degrees and drizzly rain, perfect conditions for the delivery of my new 488 Spider. Sick of all the depreciation talk, Brexit debarcle, etc...... A perfect time I thought to dress up as Santa, top down and go for a spirited drive. What a great time I had, how lucky am I? This is what it’s all about. Merry Christmas to everyone.
Congratulatons! Stunning car, best color. Very jealous!
Couple of questions:
1) How does the sound compare to the comparable NASP cars you've had?
2) Is the power even remotely usable at all? I have a V8 R8 (420BHP) and can only use a fraction of the power a fraction of the time so I'm left wondering what it's like owning a 660BHP beast!?

1) Personally, when below 7,000 revs I think it sounds preferable to the 458. The whistles and noises confirm it’s obviously turbo charged... its a deeper flat plane crank sound but definitely familiar to previos n/a V8’s. In delivery though, it feels sensationally linear and non turbo charged in the way the power builds. Still early days but I don’t feel i’ve ‘lost’ anything at this point. Possibly this is also because my previous cars have all been hard-top and the Spider seems to bring the engine sound more into focus. Undoubtedly, it’s the best turbo engine I’ve experienced by a long way and what it may lack in the lost final 1,000 revs, it makes up for elsewhere.
2) Haven’t had the opportunity to ‘nail’ mine yet but I did test drive the car extensively in late August in hot weather. The one thing that Ferrari seem to do very well is excell in making their mid engined cars get their power down ridiculously well. Probably down to the clever electronics and differential but (in good conditions) you can pretty much get full throttle anytime you want without feeling any system intervention in sport/race mode, although i’m sure the car is measuring out the power, it never really feels like the systems are intervening. I’m not a good enough driver to switch the systems off, but i’m sure things would get a bit more lively if you wanted.

488 tucked up in my garage awaiting it's new friend !!
Very, very nice. Lovely thing to add to your collection. Did have a look at these big time, really just wanting to experience the engine never having owned a V10. Unfortunately at well over 6 foot tall it quickly became obvious it wasn’t to be...488 tucked up in my garage awaiting it's new friend !!

Yes, I know what you mean. I’m only 5’ 9 so fits me quite well.Loving the 488 although doesn’t quite do it for me in the sound dept I think the 458 is a much more involving and visceral sound just as a Ferrari should be. Mines the same colour as yours but with cream interior.
Enjoy in good health.
