My F355 is now 22 years old and needs a full re-spray with a few patches of corrosion to attend to.

Please offer some garages who are best positioned to do this.

What will be the likely cost?

Anyone had this done on a F355 or similar car?

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Everyway Solutions in Southampton, resprayed my 599 and the job was exceptional. They were recommended to me by Notax on here.

Out of curiosity - anybody know what the cost of a colour change/full respray to a high standard is? Might do this at some point ....

Mr F355GTS Sir, can you kindly divulge the cost of this work?
Their website says regarding your 599: 'Complete strip down and exterior paintwork in factory rosso fioriano' - was there corrosion on your car that was addressed?

The best way to work out how much it will cost is think up a number you think is fairly reasonable and then multiply it by two.

Thank you for taking time to PM me - that is appreciated.

Did the bodyshop comment on the corrosion that they have remedied? Will the corrosion eventually return, or is the expectation that it has been treated and will be more resistant to corrosion, if looked after?

I have a quote from a body shop which works on mostly classic cars; nothing modern in their workshop or yard.

The quote is for £10,000 and they would require the F355 for several months.

It would be back to bare metal in some places only - my problem areas are around front and rear wheel arches.

Rust would be cut out and replaced with new metal,

Any thoughts? Does price seem reasonable?

Names of other places?

Having some experience of the classic car world, that doesn't sound too awful to be honest.

As long as they're good, of course...

Issue you have is what else they find, and whether they just do the work and bill you, or ask you then bill you for the extras.
A few classic places just sort it all, and then the bill comes in - often a lot more than what they quoted originally.

getting done over the winter is often cheaper, and doesn't impact you driving the car btw.

not sure where you are, but I can tell you about a few places in the north I've used and how much they charged in a PM - varies a lot between places. Get reviews and recommendations if you can first.

I did a full bear metal respray on my 308 at Mototechnique about 10 yrs ago. The original quote was for nearly double yours (nearly 75% of the car value at the time) and there was no rust found that needed fixing as that would have been extra. At the time others were quoting 2k - 4k.
Did a full respray but not entirely everything to bare metal on my old 993 by Preciesion porsche a few years ago and that was around 10k. Again a fantastic job. I have used them also for the ferraris for front bumpers etc. I would definitley ask them for a quote.
BTW in both full resprays it took a month for each.

No direct experience, but for a top quality, back to bare metal respray, with any rust and additional unknown issues to be dealt with, I'd be budgeting @ £10K~£20K.

Panelcraft in Swindon did a good job, at a sensible price on my Diablo.

Road Race Restoration bases in Little Hulton in Manchester are worth a recommendation. Ask for Tom.

Finishline in Herts are very good.....normally a two or three month wait to get the car in even for a minor job. http://www.finishlineukltd.co.uk/

Also in South Bucks/Herts are I use this firm http://arlcoachworks.co.uk/ Bloke who runs it works his arse off and does great work. He's just been entrusted with a full on bare metal Muira restoration by one of the UK's leading classic Lamborghini specialists which says a lot about his work. Reckon he'd be competitive.

Another good recommendation would be Greg at Southam Bodies in Warwickshire. I gave him my Porsche 964 last year, back to bare metal, treated all the rust, changed a couple of the rotten body panels and repainted in a different colour. Exceptional work and probably one of the best in the business.

My 993Turbo is booked in for a bare metal respray next a month - no harm in giving him a shout for a quote!
