Had a scary moment today in my 2011 Cali; was driving along, thankfully only at about 40, and the car completely shut down. Engine, electronics, power steering, the lot.

Luckily I managed to pilot it to the side of the road but am pretty concerned!

If this had happened at speed I dread to think what might have happened?!?!

I only bought the car 2 weeks ago from a main dealer.

Will call them in the morning...I just hope it's not one of those electrical faults that can't be diagnosed and therefore fixed.

I honestly don't know if I could trust the car if that was the case :/

anything like this happened to anyone else?

Had exactly the same thing happen to me.

Dealer diagnosed it as a battery issue as the car wasn’t used that week and never connected to a trickle charger. Basically use the car more often or connect it if you have that option.

Also I’ve learnt that, on start up when turning the key, wait for the fuel gauge to fully display and then wait another few seconds before pushing the red start engine button. It does make a difference

I've been using the car as a daily so I'm not sure if this could still be the case for me?

I always wait for the 5 check lights to go on and off before starting. Do you wait longer than this?

Cheers.

Does your car have the Hele stop start system ?.

I had a 2011 blue California had the same issue. Car had 2 new batteries in the space of 6 months in the end the dealer bought it back and I got into a newer car without the Hele stop start system.

Must say my car did the same on a local by pass I was going about 40 MPH very scary no power steering just had to free wheel to a standstill.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for the kind words.

It does't have that system, no.

It seems this is not an unheard of issue.

What a pain. Will update when the dealer has seen it on Monday.

Mine didn’t have the stop start. I’d get the dealer to have a look at it - will all be under warranty so don’t worry too much! Good luck
