So should I buy a 360 LHD F1?
Discussion
Hello all ........ never been to this part of the forum before, so be gentle
Air cooled 911 fan here, I've owned my present (993 manual) for over six years.
I'm hitting the big 50 this year and I am starting to yearn for a change.
Rather than looking for another Porsche, I'm thinking of either heading for a AM Vantage manual or possibly a 360F1.... though the thought of the Ferrari excites more
I've never owned a semi auto box car before and with driving modern Porsche with the PDK box I have been left feeling unimpressed, they just seem a bit too good and boring.
However, most of my fun 6K miles per year driving is actually abroad and though I've never been keen on left hookers with a manual box (I owned a LHD 911 for a while, I just dont like 5th and 6th being away from the driver) , the thought of the F1 360 in LHD suddenly appeals.
Most of my driving is on the empty beautifull tarmaced roads of the Spanish Pyrenees, though this summer I will be heading to Italy to Volterre in whatever car I own at the time for a fortnight..... there will be some city driving to places like Grenoble, Lyon, Pisa etc to see friends on the way.
Now I've read that the F1 box is jerky and a PITA in traffic and or parking. So before I start to really look into this, is the F1 box great/good/soso or just plain bad? and could I assume the F1 is as much/near fun as the manual for the Pyrenees kind of driving I mostly do.
Muchas gracias/grazie mille/thank you

I have not owned a 360 F1, but find the Scuderia box quite entertaining. It will never be as involving as a manual (which I would much prefer, I adored my 355), but I find it a lot better than a dual clutch box.
I think the 360 has aged quite well (esp with the CS bumpers) and would pick one over a 430 I think for mountain roads - great sounding engine and "slow enough" to actually be able to drive it properly without worrying about your license all the time.
am sure somebody with ownership experience will be along shortly.
Nothing beats driving a Ferrari in Italy in summer imo

I ran a LHD 360 F1 for 18 months. Imported from Italy, drove it back across Europe and had fallen in love with it by the time I hit the shores. In 6000 miles it never missed a beat, couldn't fault the F1 gearbox. Replaced it with a F430 F1 and actually found I preferred the 360 for it's character. But be warned - a Porsche it is not. Nothing went wrong with it whilst I had it (power steering pump failed the week after I sold it though) but it just had that slightly fragile feel about it. But, it was an itch that needed scratching and now it's scratched and the 430 has gone as well. Back to Porsche at some time I expect.

Thanks for that, and I love the vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oRkvewGfmg
Yes Id assume they are a little fragile ......... Memories of my Intagrale suddenly come to mind. Memories which are twenty years old and I can still feel the pain.
I owned a 360 CS and drove a couple of 360s with the gearbox upgrades that came with the later 360s. I really enjoyed the F1 box. Its full of drama in a good way.
I also owned a manual 360. TBH I really enjoyed the thought of owning a manual but the drive of the F1l..

I drive a different 360 almost every day - a properly sorted F1 is a much more involving drive at a quick pace IMO (compared to a manual). The UK market is down on LHD and F1 right now so you should be able to pick up a relative bargain. We are due to take in a Rosso/Nero car with mid-20k miles which will retail around the £55k mark (depending on prep costs). A RHD drive manual would be at least £20-25k more.
