458 front pads advice please
Discussion
Hi all
My 458 Spider has just had its 4th service.
I've done 19,000 miles in it since new, mostly Euro road trips through the mountains not sparing the horses.
It's down to 4mm on the front pads. I'm running it in the UK this summer and doing an 8 day trip into Austria in June doing the mountain passes etc.
Would you recommend changing the pads before the road trip? I'm tending to think so but not sure what 4mm represents in terms of miles left.
Thanks

I’m certainly no expert but I remember when I traded back my first 458 the service manager mentioned that the pads had 6mm left which was fine, against 10mm when new. I’m sure he said that the Wear indicators should show at 3-4mm and if not changed then high risk of scoring. I can also vaguely remember a similar thread from a year or two ago when somebody mentioned that there are soft metal pins in the pads that run c4mm deep which can also score. Given your not going to be just ‘nipping to the shops and back’ might be worth getting done for the peace of mind?
