2016/17 Cali T or 2011/12 458

Hi All,
I like my Bentley GT Speed for its effortless power, unrivaled built quality, practicality and sense of occasion even though i was using it daily. But i now have a V8 Rangie for daily duties so i am looking for a more exciting weekend/occasion car and its gotta be a Ferrari. My top budget is £150k. Would you pick a 2011/12 458 or 2016/17 nearly new Cali T. My intention is to keep the car for 12-18 months and probably will do around 10k miles during this term.
I am yet to test drive both cars but i dont really like harsh track car sort of ride, poor visibility or low ground clearance. Also enjoy modern tech like bluetooth music streaming and good quality sound systems, digital displays, ,LED headlights etc, With this in mind i believe nearly new Cali T is the one for me. I dont think there is a massive performance difference between the Cali T and 458 at least on paper Am i right? 458 looks alone is a killer on the other hand though.
Is there anyone out here who has experienced/owned both cars? Which one would suggest and why? If i go with 458 it has be with Power Warranty whether from main dealer or from private buyer. I also tend to believe 458 will cost less in ownership during 12-18 specially if bough privately with the balance of warranty. Do you agree?

I think Feb 11 onwards and my former March 11 458 definitely had it.
I would spend time in each car as chalk and cheese, mainly for the reasons you mentioned. I had a fully optioned Cali T with SH pack on loan for two weeks last year. A lovely car, great engine, decent tech, etc but not for me or the wife. Only used it for 1 sunny day and back in the 458 where the real fun is at. If its a weekend toy, no competition imo.

Warranty Direct do not wriggle out of claims due to wear and tear and cover things like suspension which tend to go wrong on a 458 quite a lot and can cost a fair £££ to rectify.
I bought a £60 gadget off amazon and can stream music off my iphone nice and easy. The tech is not at all out dated either and the screens on the dash are pretty good for a 2011 car especially when compared with those offered in say a Maserati MC Stradale!

I went to Ferrari to buy a 458 and came out with a 6 month old California T. Completely different car but much more user friendly.
One of the main reasons I switched was I struggled to get in the 458 @ 6ft 4.
458’s are keeping their money though and for me are a better car than the 488 but the Cali T is a full on GT car which will lead me to trading it in for an F12.

Thanks for all the replies, very surprised to hear Warranty Direct has wider coverage than Ferraris own warranty. I always believed approved used cars has the most comprehensive warranty. Service pack confusion also cleared.

I have a test drive booked for 66 plate Cali T which has almost all the options i am looking for and the colour combo. Good to hear someone else also opted for a Cali T instead of 458 so i think i am not going mad alone I am also more of a GT car person to be honest. 458 is not ruled out yet though, will definitely spent some time in it before the decision.

These are quite different cars. The Cali is underrated in my opinion. It’s a fast lovely looking GT car.
The 458 is one of the best v8 Ferrari’s ever. Don’t take my word for it, read the reviews and reports from press and forums. I bought a 2012 car recently which has two years of services left and two years of ferrari warranty. Although there aren’t many documented faults I wanted the warranty for piece of mind. It’s an amazing car.
It is virtually certain the 458 will depreciate less.
If both have warranty and service plan then I can’t see there being much in it in respect of running costs over a two year period.
My choice was 458, I only usually it as a toy, I love the shape and I wanted the racier car. However, if you want a comfortable GT car then I think the Cali will fit the bill better.

I looked at the Cali T as it was the newer car when I bought my 458 too so was in a similar situation to you. After driving both cars the 458 won hands down. The sense of occasion whilst even just walking up to the car is something else that for me the Cali did not match.
The looks, the drive and not to mention the lack of worry about depreciation made the 458 a much more compelling option for me. I think ny car has actually gone up in value over the last two years and the Cali T has dropped a lot and with the arrival of its replacment the Portofino I can see it dropping even more.
I totally agree with the comments about Power Warranty vs Warranty Direct. I had to have two rear shock absorbers replaced on my 458 last year due to a leak (only one was leaking but they insist to replace in pairs) and the power warranty did NOT cover this as they don’t cover oil leaks. There was no goodwill from Ferrari either! £4500 down!
I had the exact same issue on my Maserati GTS which had a WD Warranty and they paid the entire amount without any fuss.
My 458 power warranty ends soon and I’ll be going with Warranty Direct too - their secure care cover is the best product on the market with no wear and tear exclusions and the labour rate is upto £500 an hour covering franchised garages up to a claim cost of the value of the car!

Not sure what you mean but if you mean charges for diagnosing any potential issues then these are covered with WD if the fault is diagnosed. Its the same with the Power Warranty too - I had an interior light out that was throwing an error on my ECU and the Ferrari dealer wanted to charge me 1.5 hours labour for diagnosing thr fault!
WD ask for an inspection that costs £99 before they cover you but this is a really basic check - tyres, lights, indicators, and a quick drive around the block!! If you haggle hard they will pay for this too!

Sorry yeah, badly asked question. I was referring to inspections prior to taking the warranty out so you've answered that. Hmm, well my F12 just turned 4 so I took the power warranty out but one of my 458s is 4 in April so I'll look at WD before deciding what to do with that one.
I've not had a single problem with all three of my Ferraris but it's guaranteed if I don't take a warranty out, I will.
Strangely I've felt no compulsion to extend warranty on any of my other cars. The idea of a buggered gearbox or engine on a Ferrari gives me the heebyjeebies.

Quite. I had a small problem (stopped going into P) which escalated and escalated and ended up with my gearbox being shipped to Maranello. And having a long holiday there. But for the power warranty I would have been I think in the late teens in Her Majesty's sterlings (much more expensive than my yooros). I have an interesting exploded view photo of my car with gearbox out and innards outwards, looking like an IED victim.My advice? Get the warranty. It's not that dear.

This. I have a 2014 458 Spider, my wife just got a 2016 California T. Totally different. The Cali is quiet, comfortable and to me not how a Ferrari should feel. The 458 is a go kart with razor shapr steering, an N/A V8 that just buzzes behind your head and feels just so much more special.They don't compare in any way.
The California is a good daily car but not an event.
The 458 is in a different league IMHO
