Looked at various cars over the last few months. Although I have looked at and nearly bought a Lambo G spider or a 430 spider, I think I really want a 458, but the cost was just outside my budget. Im not terribly fussy on spec (save it must be red or black car with black or cream/Sabia leather. Now that the summer is over the prices usually drop a little over the winter; when do they tend to hit the bottom? Ideally I'd buy privately. Im looking in the normal places and I've put a wanted advert up on here. Any other recommendations for places to look?

I've been looking for a while, I did find one from a private seller (a low mileage red/crema 2011 458 Italia). As part of the agreement I had it inspected by Graypaul Ferrari Birmingham before completing the purchase( at a cost of nearly £700), it was worth every penny, the inspection was required to put a warranty on it and they picked up on thousands of pounds worth of work required, unfortunately I couldn't come to an agreement on a reduction in asking price with the owner, Graypaul subsequently bought the car themselves and retailed it....
If you do buy one, ensure you get a Ferrari inspection done, it could save you a fortune (slightly off topic but hopefully a useful contribution)

The standout thing on that list is a complete replacement of both an ECU and the intake flaps, to fix a fault code...
Interesting that they recommend all 4 tyres be changed even though they have plenty of tread because they have non-specific damage. I'll wager the car has the same tyres now...
On the one hand that's a very comprehensive report, and dealers will want to have £10-15k to play with on these cars in case of issues, but I don't believe they would've done those jobs and certainly not done them in a "what the hell let's replace the whole ECU and the flaps because it's thrown a fault code at some point"
Did the car have a Power warranty? That fault - if it really was that bad - would've certainly been covered.
Have to agree with the above, think you were stitched up here (on the inspection cost too).

I looked at that car too. GP would have paid around 130 (advertised at 133 from memory) for it and they sold it for just under 150 (2011, red with crema carbon seats, 13k miles ish).
My concern was more related to the circumstances of the sale as the owner lived abroad, the v5 was in his fathers name and in Southampton and the car was stored at GP. It must have all been ok but it was too messy for me and i wasn't taking any risks with 130k.

As for the prices going up next year ... Those owning one have motive to talk the market up and those buying have motive to talk it down. Whichever side you fall there is little point discussing it as it is all guesswork.
My question was more from a historical point of view when does seasonal variation tend to hit the bottom? Oct/Nov/dec/Jan? Im pretty sure from march onwards prices are on the way back up?

I'm an owner of a f430 and I would argue I think prices next year will be down. Simple fact cheap money is now putting on the brakes and the hype has slowed considerably a lot of cars haven't sold. In fact maranello have a white spider which I looked round 3 months ago and it's still there on Sunday when I stopped to look
Confidence is shrinking in the general public and let's not forget whilst I love a 458 a friend of mine knows nothing about cats but says, "they are ancient"
The amount of new supercars coming out of course will influence and most of these haven't started depreciation because of the heap money but it will happen!

I haven't noticed an significant seasonal variation over the last couple of years. In my experience it's just a case of finding a car that you will accept from the dealer with the biggest appetite to sell: So maybe been in stock for a while, coming to the end of the dealers target qtr or yr. Typically winter months do provide the best opportunity for a deal but I wouldn't expect outright lower asking prices at the very bottom end of the 458 market though.
Of course if you are buying privately then this might not be the case and is very dependant on the person selling. More often than not a person who would be selling a good/clean 458 privately (so decided against trade in/trade sale/SOR) will hold out for a good price and won't be desperate to sell.

Images are too small to see if it still has the same tyres
edit: As a point of note - "intake flaps stuck open" could actually be a modification the previous owner had made. The flaps fail open so if someone wanted the car to sound grunty all of the time, rather than them naturally being closed unless you push on they could've disconnected the vacuum hoses, or installed a switch to toggle it. I very, very seriously doubt even if there had been something wrong with it that necessitated entirely a new ECU and intake flaps!
So basically you've got £5,409 for what could just be a disconnected vacuum hose, £1,196 for replacement tyres that it probably doesn't need (report says "stress fractures" which probably means it has the original tyres from the factory. No way would they change those when they have 5mm+ tread) and £336 on squeaky brakes (I had squeaky brakes on occasion - usually it happened when I was driving it too sedately .. just brake harder once or twice)
edit 2: Confused OP with Deano84.
