Importing 458 or not?

I'm set on buying a 458, test drove one recently and fell in love. However have some different thoughts on buying one in the U.K. Vs importing and keen to hear thoughts from others.
My main argument for importing is my negative view on brexit - I believe that will have a quite negative impact on U.K. Economy in general and potential supercar buyers in particular. Might be that effect is only really showing in 2019-20 and hence nothing to worry for yet but considering how inflated supercar prices in general are in the U.K. It certainly feels downside is much bigger on prices here vs having a LHD that can be exported back to Europe.
Don't think I have. A big issue around having a lhd in the UK, I'll be doing plenty of Euro trips in any case.
Warranty - I'm looking at 11/12 model and most seem to have extended warranties - I guess that could be an issue with an imported car?
And overall prices seem to be somewhat lower in EU vs UK.

I think uk prices are already starting to fall. I have seen a number of cars reduced in price over the last few weeks. Main dealer I was talking to last week was saying that RHD 458's will start at £125k mark next year
I don't have an issue with LHD here, had one previously and made virtually no difference to me. I have toyed with import as cheaper and potentially safer for the reasons you mention. However, its a pain from an inspection and payment point of view.
If it has a Euro official Ferrari warranty, it is valid here, so that's not a problem.

Which main dealer was this? They have not dropped below £140k at a main dealer for over 2 and a half years now and I really don't see that changing when decent 458s are £100k and 360s are £75-80k. There are four red cars on autotrader. Two main dealer cars and two indies. All four are £140k or less. Last week there were two 458 spiders priced at 150K and 154K. They are definitely dropping.
The 430 market is static. Same cars have been for sale for ages. I think they will need to drop to sell. 3-4 months time, summer will be over and prices will drop further for winter.

Just had a look on AutoTrader as you said. I can see two low spec red cars with main dealers both with over 20k miles and priced at exactly £140k none below. The 430 market is static. Both the above are high milers with over 20k miles.
The 2010 cars with 20k plus miles and a low spec have been £140k for two years or so now anything with below 10k miles are nearer to £150-155k.
The Two you mention that are with indies priced at just below £140k but one has an eye watering 40k miles and the other with 26k miles! Then there are some LHD or cat d cars under £130k.

I do not call that dropping!! I call them "opportunities" for someone to get in to 458 ownership on a tight budget. To get a decent spec car from a main dealer with a decent mileage, warranty and pedigree you are still looking way above £150k:

Speak to any mail dealer and ask for a 458 and they will tell you how they are struggling to get decent stock - people still want these - last of the naturally aspirated v8 etc etc and there are not enough good cars to fulfil this demand at the moment and I can't see this changing as I also know that many RHD examples find their way in to other countries whilst being exported out of the UK.

To be clear to the other comments, I have no view of the 458 in particular is due a price decrease, my point is that 2-4yrs from now all super cars in this country will drop in prices as the effects of a hard brexit will start appearing with higher interest, less wealth and less high earners in London buying expensive toys

I do own one and mine is a late 2011 car (Dec) that has done 11k miles - had a chat with 2 dealers about replacing it with a spider and both commented about it being a nice low mileage example - I asked what a high mileage one was then and they said 20k and up. I agree that these are bullet proof and can probably live well in to 6 figure mileages of maintained properly and the 35k miler is a good buy if someone wants a keeper and is intending on doing low miles per annum.

Ridiculous - Those are 2010 cars ... 6-7 years old now - what is a Ferrari supposed to average 1k miles per annum to stay below 10k miles until it is double digit years old? Money well spent then that purchase .... buy a bog standard Ferrari and then don't drive it PrancingHorses said:

Lets face it, dealers want to sell new cars and pay nothing on trade ins so it's in their interest to do so. They damage the brand though by perpetuating the fallacy that the cars are fragile. Back on topic though the emergence of autonomous cars may be just the impetus needed to switch to driving on the right in the U.K. as computers don't care. LHD may soon be the norm here too...?You have to be very careful I agree. Many cars have not been well cared for and history can be a bit sporadic. Less so with the cars with service contract. The local main dealer will do an inspection for about 600 quid. There are some genuine cars at bargain prices compared to UK market for LHD
That is certainly true of some cars here. However, there are also some very good examples owned mainly by ex pats who take care of their cars very well. Yes it's hot but most are parked in garages or basement car parks the majority of the time. If you find a good one, they are cracking value.
my 2 cents, take in consideration the re-sale value for a LHD car in UK. I own a LHD California and was thinking to upgrade it... the truth is that dealers (indy mostly) in UK they will try to sell you LHD cars for pretty much the same price of a RHD, but when it comes to show you a bid, welll, they will bid it 15k£ back vs a RHD...

Low mileage, very good spec, with the carbon racing kit. 2012 car too. Private sale so some risk, but assuming you did your diligence, stuck a Ferrari warranty on it, I don't imagine dealer bids would be an awful lot lower than that price when you come to sell.
