Such a shame, where to start? the fake dial, wrong bezel on that model, wrong bracelet for the bezel etc etc frown
A frankenwatch or a pastiche if you are being kind

That's a bit mean. Why rain on someone's parade like that?

Bamfords, in Mayfair, has / had one for about ~£20k.

Not really into watches, but the big-hand and the twisty things on the side look slightly different to other stuff seen before. Hard to tell, as always with these things.

Not meant to be mean and if it was taken that way then I apologise. Rolex never made a watch in that configuration(116520 with Bakelite bezel and that red dial is an aftermarket custom made dial).

I love Rolex and was wearing a 116520 as I posted that response. If you post a picture then tell people what it is - I collect Rolex watches and have seen to many people taken in by watches that aren't what they seem.

It's a modern Rolex 116520 made to look like a vintage Rolex 6263 see picture

Notice the case where the screw down pushers are, the OPs case has crown guards, the case shape, the sub dials are in a different order,
The bracelet has solid end links. I could go on but I won't. I love Rolex watches.

Hi,

I'm a huge Rolex fan and am also currently wearing an 116520!

Sorry for any offence I've caused, my friend had always wanted a red dial Paul Newman, but as they go for c$1m they're a bit out of his price range. So instead I took his genuine 116520, removed the dial and took it back to bare metal, soldered all the holes, re-painted the dial, the hands etc, and obtained an after-market bezel (and kept the original).

I appreciate it's not to everyone's tastes. It's similar to what Bamford do, but I wasn't brave enough to grind off the crown guards. It's not supposed to be a 1960's Paul Newmnan, just a 'nod' to it, but not a fake. Maybe like Singer is to Porsche? (Haaa!)

I probably shouldn't have hi-jacked the Ferrari V8 forum either, so again apologies to anyone I've offended!

David I don't think you need to apologise!
While it may not be not to everyone's taste you didn't imply the watch was anything it isn't, it was clear from your first post you'd modified it. Much like modifying a car everyone will have an opinion but I for one enjoy looking at what people's passions and interests lead them to even if they don't match my own.
For the record I enjoy looking at nice watches but am no aficionado, I follow Bamford and equally they produce both beautiful and on occasion hideous creations... but of course that's just my opinion laugh
Thanks for sharing!

I misunderstood your post sorry, I thought you were passing it off as a 100% genuine Rolex rather than a nod to the past.
I liked the 6365's a lot but the story about the Reds unfolded years ago - it's the dial Rolex should have made. I remember the red Daytonas for sale about 15 years ago on TZ for $10k and then on auction later on and sold to EC and JM. Both apparently turned out to have non genuine dials (what the Itslians claimed at the time). Shame as I loved he Japan story that went with the watches.
I was amazed that EC got it wrong - he got the YM Daytonas right when myself and others(Kamal etc) got it wrong. I still have that catalogue and kick myself for not buying it.
I love your passion for making something unique if not made that way originally, I didn't think you were describing it as something put together.

Angels on the head of a pin stuff. Who cares whether or not it came out of a Rolex factory like that - its still a Roles just like my car remains a Ferrari whatever I add onto it.
