Dilema 360 CS or 430 Scud
Discussion
As in title really
having a really hard time choosing between the 2 as both float my boat but don't want to get it wrong.
on one hand theres the CS probably the purest most raw and I love the looks and it potentially a sounder investment ? (yes its a factor for me)
but then for outright performance and usability theres the Scud which is still quick enough amongst fresher offerings.
within budget I will be able to afford the nicest of the Scud's but when it comes to CS I am looking at the 16-20k RHD cars or the low miles LHD's
then i start thinking for that money you could buy a Huracan / 650 / 458 - nearly a 488 - arghhh - but I hate loosing £££'s and i love the older character stuff.
any advice or ridicule welcomed

A lucky Italian friend that now owns a 458 Speciale has been swapping from the fast edition of the mid-engined Ferrari to another, apparently keeping very satisfied in both driving and financially terms. His father was already a loyal Ferrari customer in the 60s so I don't know if he still got some kind of preferential treatment but he managed to get delivery of the Speciale very early.
Anyway I remember he went directly from his 355 to a CS, than from the CS to the Scud and then from the Scud to the Speciale, always buying new and give it back to the official dealer.
He is always been happy with the change but according to his opinion the CS tranformed the relatively dull 360 completely (he preferred the 355 to the standard 360 for a spirited drive), the Scuderia was so good overall that should have been the standard 430 while the 458 was already a good step up for him in standard version but he is happy with the Speciale.

Scud! Gearbox is simply so rewarding.
I went from MT 430 to CS to 16M. Now had the 16M 6 years.
Agree the F1 superfast II gearbox in the 430 scuderia is breathtaking. Has to be the pinnacle of all road going gearboxes IMHO and suits the car perfectly.I went from MT 430 to CS to 16M. Now had the 16M 6 years.

I know the CS sounds amazing and is a massive step up over the vanilla 360 but with the exception of sound its not such a good drive as a scuderia and lacks a little in performance.
The answer for me and no doubt Russell will back this up is to have a 430 scuderia with a complete capristo exhaust system therefore having the best of both worlds.
Great gearbox and great sound.
Oh god I think you have started something with me now - off to the classifieds for a cheap LHD
Very jealous of Russell996. If you had the money, 16M would be the best choice of all. Lucky man.
The CS is such an event to drive. The gearbox at low speeds is dreadful and makes manoeuvring less than enjoyable - don't know how one would behave in central London - but at speed it's definitely quick enough and the "cracks" when you change up are incomparable with later models.
There must be no doubt the CS is the best sounding of all. And in the UK, on the road, you simply don't need anything faster these days. It's plenty fast enough and means the top end (most exciting noise) is far more accessible day to day than the modern absurdly rapid kit on English roads.
Obviously i am biased, and am looking forward to taking my CS to Goodwood tomorrow.
I would love to own a Scud as well!!

For me it was not even a consideration so I got the CS
Now I have it I'd love to get the scud but in addition ... If I get lucky !
I would also get LHD CS + LHD Scud instead of 16M for the price and drive them both rather than have a super valuable car that I'd think twice about using

Why would you think twice about using a 16M, use it and it still holds it's value. Win win!Now I have it I'd love to get the scud but in addition ... If I get lucky !

Because spare parts get more expensive, running costs increase and as you know, this low mileage irrational obsession of the market means that the car will become less liquid and less valuable. As you see the trend is quite clear https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/ferrari_f430...
Personally if my strad went up to 500k (which btw will happen at some point but hopefully not soon) I would definitely not be using it as much and I'd be paranoid about parking it in central London. Of course if my lottery numbers come up in the meantime, I wouldn't care as much
Coming from owning both a cs and a scud I would say either will make you happy and they both do it in different ways. The cs is a beautiful car, sounds epic, and fast enough to keep you entertained where as the scud is not as pretty it is much faster and gearbox is better. They will both hold well in the long term as most Ferrari's do, the cs is more likely to be the better financial choice with less made and a first in the line of modern classics.
I still own the cs and it's a car I just can't seem to want to sell it's under my skin now

Hi I am fortunate enough to have both and its clear to me that the Scud is the better car
I bought the Strad first and i love the thing, especially the way it sounds!
Any Strad owners will know this.
But and its a big but!
After picking up the Scud i cant get out of thing, it makes the gear shift in the strad seem comical and its so so much faster, every time you change gear you expect to see a hand full of cogs laying on the road in your mirrors its just an out and out Tool.
Brutal, wild and much more reliable, everything is better and thats a fact.
If you want pretty, buy a Strad and look at it in the garage but be prepared for the engine management light to flick on for no reason whatsoever and be very temperamental.
The Strads gearbox also gets all confused and slur'ey on a hot day and at slow speeds makes you look like a fool in traffic snapping forward every time you touch the throttle!
(Some Rari onwers will say its all part of the charm but to me its a pain in the arse)
Strads are rarer and gorgeous to look at but the Scud wins me every time and i dont think its as pretty but it looks just like the vicious animal it is..................and i like that
Both are great cars but the Scud is a Better car in every way,and thats the honest truth imo

What about a Superleggera or Performante,I went Performante after thinking 350k for a 16M was just crazy money albeit a great car!

Eh? In 3 years and 5000 miles I've not had any of these issues. You must have bought a dud! The Strads gearbox also gets all confused and slur'ey on a hot day and at slow speeds makes you look like a fool in traffic snapping forward every time you touch the throttle!

I did have an engine management light moment so can understand your point in that one. Also, without the hot day issue - not experienced that, the gearbox at low speeds is seriously clunky. A manual would have been such fun, imagine heel and toe in a Stradale.
At full chat with the cracks from the exhaust on upshifts, and hearing 430s, 458s, even Scuderias, I wouldn't change the CS for the world. It's intoxicating beyond belief.

But as we all know - 'better' doesn't always mean, er, 'better'. If it did we would all buy the latest and the greatest.I bought the Strad first and i love the thing, especially the way it sounds!

I drove a 991 Turbo S recently. It murders my Strad on acceleration, gear change etc etc. But after a few 0-100's in nothing seconds it was boring.
All of us present agreed we'd rather have the Strad in the garage for weekend honing - and that's what these cars are for really. The 'bang' of the strad up-shift may be agricultural cf a scud but that's part of the attraction! Add in the mental noise and the non-compliant suspension and you're in for, well, the fking ride of your life!
Both great cars but I can see why the market puts a premium on the Strad.
Thanks for all the responses guys youve made a hard decision even harder -haha
Been looking and enquiring about a few of each what a minefield heres a few responses no names.
Its quite normal with a low mileage ferrari not to service it for the first 3 years nothing to be bothered about.
Quite normal for it not to have been serviced for past 9 years as sat in temp controlled collection.
They never record services on cars from that part of world but that doesnt mean it wasnt serviced.
No it hasnt had a cambelt yet because such low miles but we will do one before delivery : 2004 car
That said there are some proper cars out there with great provenance and decent sellers.
Heart and ears says CS after all comments
Head & right foot says Scud
Then i looked at the Gallardo Balboni manual --- arrghh
