I noticed a squeaking noise whilst driving slowly with the window open the other day. It was more noticeable on uneven road surfaces. I have tried it both with bumpy road settings on and off but the sound remained. It's deffo not the brake squeal sound but more of a suspension rattle noise.

Any ideas what this could be? Bushes maybe? Would this be covered under warranty or wear and tear?

Could be shocks leaking. Two of mine went and weren't covered under Power warranty. Ended up replacing all four under advisement as the failed ones were at opposing sides and ends of car.

Got no goodwill from Ferrari but fortunately dealer stepped in and helped a bit.

FYI the warranty explicitly excludes oil leaks.

Obviously might not be this, and hopefully isn't! frown

Wow thanks for the feedback....that sounds like some mega £££ spent. Were the symptoms the same as mine - squeaky noise over uneven surfaces?

Actually there were no symptoms at all. I was told (and shown) during a service that they were leaking slightly. I would not have known that there was anything wrong with them to be honest.

Fingers crossed that it's something far more simple for you! Sorry to cause any undue alarm.

No problem at all - now the challenge to try and get a booking to have the car seen to!

Shock absorbers not covered under warranty, that's outrageous.
Is car outside 4 yr manufacturers warranty and is it an insurance based power warranty.
Would of thought with a FFSH you could get 50% goodwill contribution.
How many miles has it done

I had part ( folding bracket cracked )of the roof mechanism done on my F430 spider 3 mths out of OEM warranty with no power warranty and got 50% goodwill contribution.

If I was you I would be pushing for that.

Kia cover shock absorbers and are very good with goodwill if car has full service history thumbup Go figure customer satisfaction

Sounds similar to mine, also on Power warranty not manufacturer. Mine had done less than 10k miles at point of discovery.

I was surprised at the lack of goodwill to be honest. My car had FFSH and had been bought from the dealer just 2 months prior, which I think helped in so far as their contribution was concerned. Ferrari pretty much told me "sucks to be you".

You'll be unlucky if it is that, but could be (and hopefully is) something more trivial to fix.

Try lubricating the rubber bushes as that may be the cause. Simple to do.

Quite worrying that Shock Absorbers aren't covered. The majority of manufacturer used car warranties would include shocks.

Just seen this thread...I have a rear failed shock absorber and have been advised to replace both rears. The car was bought 10 months ago and both the dealer and FNE tell me to go do one when it comes to goodwill - not happy!!!!!

It appears that leaking shocks are becoming a common problem with 458's and it seems very poor they are not covered under the warranty especially if the car has low mileage.

I note that my car had previously had a single leaking shock when it was owned by the previous owner. I did though speak to the Ferrari main dealer service department regarding this work they had previously undertaken on my vehicle and they said that Ferrari look at the car’s mileage to decide if one or both shocks are replaced which I think is a vague answer – mine had done 5376 miles when they only changed one shock even though car was 5 years old! My car was subsequently purchased by me from a main dealer and passed the Ferrari Approved Programme (the 190 point technical inspection) and was given a Ferrari warranty so maybe it can be ok to replace one shock if the mileage is low?

This is clearly a problem as I've just had both front shocks replaced (under warranty) on my 2013 458 spider. At previous service dealer noted slight leak from one and made a note (as did I)to check again at December 2016 service prior to warranty expiring on 31/12/16. Ferrari agreed to replace both under warranty. Car has done 7000 miles. Unfortunately last march I had to have both front shocks on my 599 replaced at 14,000 miles. Total cost £4k and not under warranty. I was starting to think it was something I was doing but clearly a problem area.

I would suspect that it is "ok" in the same sense that it would be ok to sell you a F430 with 70%+ clutch wear and say that it's got plenty of life left in it, but to chip you down the replacement cost if you tried to trade one in with that wear level....

The scary thing is that the Power warranty specifically excludes oil leaks. When shocks fail they mist/leak oil, ipso facto shocks aren't covered.

I got absolutely nowhere trying to argue with FNE that an oil leak in so far as a shock is concerned means it has catastrophically failed, it is not the same as oil leaking from a diff. Oil leaking from a shock is a byproduct of the failure, not the cause.

I would say that you were lucky that yours was caught during the new car warranty, which is (by Law) a lot stricter in terms of manufacturer responsibility.

I (stupidly?) bought my 458 at a premium with the Ferrari warranty because I wanted peace of mind. frown

It's not just the 458 - I've done a few Californias in the recent past as well. If you do get your shocks replaced then make sure you take an extended test drive over rough terrain. It can be challenging to do the top nut up on the magneride shocks up properly which results in them knocking.

POWER warranty isn't insurance based, its fully managed by the factory the same as the initial manufacturers warranty, the 4th year on UK cars is in fact classed internally as POWER.
Worth noting any goodwill consideration must have an offer of contribution by the dealer submitting the request, naturally if the dealer didn't supply the car they may not wish to offer a contribution themselves and if submitted with zero contribution its often what is offered in return likewise if they did supply the car FNE expect them to put their hand in their own pocket first anyway... Thats not to say they don't want to help when there is a fair case to be made though, in my experience.

Out of curiosity is the suspension the same as the 360/430, if so same issues to come , ,not to bad to correct and easily diagnosed, Mike
