360 and f355 values vs 3 years ago
Discussion
Hey guys
I was thinking of pulling the trigger on a 360 for 35k around 3 years ago now. I ended up going for a Vantage that was short lived and barely even driven..
I'm thinking of going for either a 360 or an F355 again, but prices seem to be a firm 55k and up. Most are literally double what I was looking at when I got the vantage! The exchange rate to ship one back down under here is favourable but probably not enough to warrant sourcing one in the uk as opposed to buying over here (unless I happen to stumble on a good deal) But due to them all being imports, the values here are directly linked to what happens in the uk (ie 3 years ago I saw a 360 for $70k, now back up to around the $120k mark.
So I wondered.. What's driving the prices at the moment? Is it long term? or something artificial?
Ultimately I think I want to be in a Gallardo at some point in the next 12-18 months, so not sure if I want to trade in the 911 if the prices are going to be volatile, especially being I'm not sure I'd even enjoy the 360 any more than the porker - it's more a 'want to tick it off the list' type of purchase.
I normally don't think about resale as a reason to buy a car, but being I might end up trading in 12 months or so if I go for it, I suppose it's only 'sensible' I do!
Any ideas? What are people thinking with values at the moment and long term? I'm actually even starting to wonder if a 348 would be a wiser purchase given the circumstances
Cheers

Never buy a car as an investment. Buy it because you like it and will enjoy. If it rises in value later - double happy daysCheers

Ah don't get me wrong, 100% not an investment! Not banking on values going up, just trying my hardest to avoid something where the prices are temporarily sky high and then back down to the previous values in another 12 months..There's a strong chance I'd look to buy in 6 months and be changing again in 12-18 months after that or so, if the prices are volatile I might just hold off and go for the Gallardo in a year or two's time rather than buy a 360 now if the prices are only temporarily inflated if that makes sense?
Cheers will carry on searching So far although I could find a 'mines worth double' 'mines worth 20k more' 'they're going mad' type of summaries I couldn't find anything just yet that pointed at a reason.

They are bouncing on the back of a rise for high value collector's cars as an investment asset class. There's nothing specific or special about these models or Ferrari overall except some vague perception of potential future worth. Ignore and enjoy driving the cars.antacid said:

We all have different tastes, but in my experience the fun of driving a 911 isn't even the same game - let alone in the same league - as driving a 360. Not. Even. Close.davek_964 said:

Water cooled I agree but a nicely sorted air cooled 911 is a true joy to own and drive and in my view would edge the 360 on feel but not on noise.Kyodo said:

If you are after fun,not practicality, then a noble m12!I have an m12 and an f430 and for fun the m12 runs rings around the Ferrari for a third of the price.Price fluctuations will not be huge either way either.
But it's not a Ferrari red_slr said:
I have stared keeping track of 355 asking prices on PH. Only started a month ago so not got lots of data but needless to say the average asking price in July was £100k.

very true words :lol:Lofty999 said:
The reason is,like a few of us I expect,I have always wanted a Ferrari!Dont get me wrong, the 430 is a great car but for different reasons so is the m12,which in my opinion is a seriously under rated car.Go and drive one and you will see what I mean.

SUppose that's it, but I guess it just doesn't explain why the more recent inflation?I've actually loved the idea of an M12 for years - they're just not available here without owning one abroad for a couple of years

If you are after cheaper fun then you won't beat a modern Lotus Elise/ Edited. Every bit as much a driver's car as a 430 and more so than a911. But sadly neither exotic nor special. Mind you neither is a 911Gassing Station | Ferrari V8 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
