Hi all, my car went in for service and as I pulled up had trouble with it going into reverse, asked the guys to check it out, got a phone call saying can only get 1st and reverse, think he said it would not reset or self learn.

He thinks it could be the actuator and will have to carry out some more tests,

Anyone had this kind of issue

Thanks

Early TCUs can suffer from an issue when self learning but this is not applicable in your case.

I would be surprised if the actuator is faulty if you can get 1st and reverse. Most actuators fail on the rotation part of the action which moves the selector between 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 & reverse.

Problems getting reverse are commonly caused by the clutch dragging on the flywheel.

Does it select all the gears with the ignition on, and the engine not running? If so if get them to check the gearbox input shaft speed sensor signal...

Hi, as for an update, called them a week Thursday and he was ringing me back the next day and I am still waiting a week on. Think I will call today as getting a bit racked off now.

Last call, waiting on warranty company to get back to them but I don't have much faith in them for what I have seen on the net, hoping I am wrong about warrant and turn out ok, guy I got the car off said if you pay screen cost 3 year warrant with wear and team comes with it.

So last call he said he drove the car and gearbox warning light was coming on, I said guess it's not actuator as it is changing gears, he said it was the actuator and sounded to me like some sort of electrical part of it to me, don't know much about the part myself thought it was hydraulic. Think I will give them a call today and see where we are at. Loosing confidence now thinking wrong diagnostic.

Have the warranty company dictated you use r his particular garage? If not, get it to someone who understands the F1 system. You don't want to end up in a situation where the warranty has paid out for a part that doesn't solve the problem.

Just got back from the garage, the guy was off today but had a chat with the other guy, said its not going into 3rd as it should or won't go into 3rd,was talking about peramitors and readings, guess on sd2/3,said that is why it could be actuator, also could be 3rd synchromesh or something else think he said pump. Not sure now. They are dealing with warranty as they have used them before. Think he said they have another actuator to try on it. So much to try and remember.

I took it for service and went for reverse and no go, asked them to look into it thinking pis wants setting, this is how it all started. Was thinking of selling it and had a ring about to some buyers and was quite happy with what they was offering. Will update when know anymore, thanks to you all for help too, ps they are ex graypaul so should be on it and feel a little better after chat today.
