I know, turbo's have higher HP, the torque can ripple tarmac and the willy waving over 10 pints on who's the quickest will also be won by blown cars and their owners...

However...

For me, you can keep all that and bring the noise every day of the week.

Amen to that....multiplied by about 1,000 per cent. Scuderia is one of the all-time greats and if I had one it would be the last thing to go, after one of my kidneys!! That screaming top-end is truly life-affirming stuff.

I agree... was out in the 599 today and the noise of the V12 never fails to put a smile on my face... yes the new "Turbo Generation" are faster, however not sure how much faster I want a car to be... GusB

Loved the sound of my 430 Scuderia but the game has moved on considerably in other areas.

Agree sound is a very important part of the overall experience but if you hear a McLaren 650S on full load from 3,500 rpm and above its fantastic. Best sounding turbo car I have come across so far and good enough that I chose it over a Speciale.
Guess you would turn down a F40 then

There are of course exceptions - turn down an F40 of course not!

Its modern kit I just find all a bit 'wooooshy' and samey (Ferrari included / Mclaren didn't even bother trying N/A (notwithstanding the F1)). Love that Lambo are still sticking two Italian bread sticks up at the establishment and hopefully Ferrari will resist with the F12 replacement...

Take the F40 video above. That thing sounds monstrous and proves blown engines don't have to be sanitised wooooshy, cookie cut power units with no character...

By that, do you mean that it is the best drug that money can buy or is the best that drug money can buy?

Well spotted smile I guess it could be both, although in my case it's the former!

Had a little wheel banging incident at Silverstone with a F40 LM a few years ago ......... also in a Turbo , a 993 GT2R Evo ....... turbos then were wild , difficult to drive scary , lairly and a challenge. Big Lag , huge torque all at the wrong time ......still my favourite
Ok Today all civilised .... Traction Control , Yaw Stability , rear wheel steer ......... nearly at the Tesla level where finally the car drives you

The sad thing about this age old argument is that large capacity NA side is getting smaller as the years go on till the point where the EU will have strangled the last NA out of the market place. From there the argument will evolve into hybrid vs turbo, where turbo will be perceived as the purist group.

Turbos have their place in offering performance and mpg claims linked with double clutch paddle gearboxes but will never match the sound, responsiveness and overall satisfaction of NA.

Fully in agreement that N/A is easily the best sounding and the Scuderia sounds fab...just not quite as good as a V10 Lambo though wink

The F40 is unique. Its huge IHI turbos deliver boost unlike any modern turbo car, making a comparison difficult.

I have NA aspirated V12s and V8s, the heart of any Ferrari is its engine, and they are superb engines.

But you've not lived as a petrolhead if you've not experienced an F40 at full boost. The greatest laugh on the planet.
