Either the Italia was tuned or the Speciale had some sort of issue. Italia doesn't even sound much different, so maybe the latter?

Proves nothing. Suppose the driver is not in auto mode and changes up a little early, or runs into the rev limiter briefly, easy enough to lose 5-10 mph worth of acceleration.
