I am thinking of upgrading my standard exhaust to the Capristo or Tubi.

My concern is that it will end up being so loud that it becomes a pain to drive for more than an hour.

Anyone have any experience of these?

Cheers, OJ

I've had the Capristo Level 1 and 2.
I'd stick to the brand and go for a Level 2.

Had a Larini exhaust on mine and although a great sound when you are going for an hour or two trip, was a real headache when travelling long distances (across Europe), I eventually changed it back to the original exhaust before I sold the car last year.

I had a Tubi Evolution fitted around 5 years ago. It has a deeper note than the Capristo, which I personally prefer, and is beautifully made

I did listen to sounds of Tubis and Capristos on YouTube videos and seem to recall a PH'er recorded his 355 revving a Capristo next to a 355 with a Tubi, for comparison, and I happen to prefer the deeper note. Joe Macari is a friend and he recommended the Tubi Evolution

I do find the Tubi sometimes creates a resonant boom in the cabin at certain low revs at low speed, which is rather grating on the ears. If on the move at normal speed the sound is fine, and great when it reaches higher revs. Going through Alpine tunnels is an experience, but having said that I wouldn't be unhappy reverting back to the original standard exhaust

I had a Tubi on one of my 355's, and X-Ost on an earlier one. Of the two, the X-Ost sounded better, but not sure if you'd be able to track one down any more.

I bought a second-hand quicksilver for mine. Bit of a whim when I spotted it on ebay with only about half an hour left on the auction. I wasn't really all that bothered about changing it, but for £350....

It's made quite a difference, I really like it. Sounds awesome in Alpine tunnels (just like most other brands I expect). I personally didn't really want to spend 4 figures +++ on an exhaust. I'd rather keep that money for cosmetic issues and essential repairs.

Capristo for me. I had one on my car, a level 1. Sounded awesome. If I had a Tubi and later heard a Capirsto - id be gutted and thinking I had the wrong exhaust on my car. Guess it comes down to personal choice, but a Capristo sounds very close to a stock exhaust when it needs to yet screams/explodes when above the 5.5/6k rev mark!

Re call seeing a second hand one for sale a few days ago, in the parts section under Ferrari, you'd need to check if its still for sale on there.

Capristo level 1 on mine when I bought it. Reasonably loud in general and screams like an F1 car when you floor it.

Having mine changed at the mo.

Losing the top 2 cats and replacing the others with Larini high flow cats.

A bit more power and should sound lovely

Careful with the 2nd hand one that is advertised...I bought it and rejected it as it has a pile of crap rattling about inside it...seller forgets to mention that in his advert here and on ebay.

I ended up buying brand new capristo and by-pass from the ever helpful chris at scuderia systems....for nearly the same price + vat but it includes a lifetime ownership guarantee and free delivery...defo a better option.

I was once a passenger in an enthusiastically driven 355GTS with a Capristo level 2. It sounded savage, in a really good way. It would be my 'go straight to' option if I ever bought a 355 and it didn't already have one fitted.

Cgt2 mentioned the x-ost. I have to agree . It's impressive but not common here. Logistics in getting one is all effort on you to buy it. The company has a website, which although Italian has an English translation. They have images of their exhausts and if you want a larini finish it's not happening. It's all about performance and sound with this and price is very good in comparison (email them and they will give you a price)
The thing I've found with all the aftermarket exhausts is it all comes down to personal preference. Only real way to really find out if it's for you is drive one with that particular exhaust.....there lies the crux

I've had standard, generic sports exhaust and a capristo lvl 2 now.
Capristo knocked the socks off them all on a 355. Less so on other models but they really got it right on that model IMHO.

They all sound pretty good but the Capristo just has something that is absolutely awesome, I think its a higher pitch than other models..

I always wanted run test pipes and the no noise limit challenge exhaust (from memory available through eurospares) - I thought that would give the maximum weight loss and probably a decent sound.alas I unfortunately had to sell the 355 before getting the parts.

Edit: I think I found it - http://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/ferrari/355-chal...

I have a Tubi on mine and the bypass valves are welded open to stop them rattling whistle
The sound is awesome - just like F1 used to be.
But the Tubi does suffer from resonance at revs below 3,500rpm.
I asked my (very well respected) indy if I should fit a Capristo to eliminate the resonance and he advised against it as he said that other customers of his have had bad experiences with poor build quality on their Capristos (poor alignment and parts loose inside).
I decided to take his advice, live with the resonance (which can be avoided by staying in a lower gear) and save my money.
But it seems that plenty of people have had no problems with their Capristo installations so by all means go for it. If you get a good one, you'll be happy with either.
