The F40 is really a one of a kind supercar in terms of it's looks and now price. How does it drive?
Those that have got to drive one are very fortunate but they are completely out of reach of normal people now.
So the question is, what contemporary 'normal' car would provide the closest driving experience. Just a theoretical question really...
What is the F40 all about - in my mind it is a light turbo powered car more for track than the road.

I doubt a regular production car could get close; maybe some elements, but not all. A tuned Noble must be half way there.

I believe a Challenge Stradale could be considered a sort of modernish F40.

I love the challenge. My favourite car I have driven by a long show. Would have in a heartbeat.

Great car but not in the same league, I'd put a Scud above the CS - the gearbox is sublime.

I remember the first time I drove my F40. I was happily trundling down the road, cautiously but firmly planted the throttle. Nothing happened. Wondered what all the fuss I had heard was about and then boom.... Brown trouser moment and looked at the speedo.... 35mph.

Not sure what I would compare it to these days! Nothing stock is mapped like an F40 now!

The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has certain similarities - philosophy of weight saving (inc use of carbon fibre), sparsely equipped, limited production run, etc...but not sure I'd classify it as 'normal' though!

OP, you used "contemporary" and "normal" (priced I guess) as key filters.

The F40 is unique, incredible, including some of its less desirable attributes.

If I wanted to re-create some of the F40's feel at a more "normal" price, I'd probably go back in time and buy a mad 80s hatchback preferably that's had its engine and suspension played with. Something small, cramped, loud, furiously quick with eye popping mid range grunt and go-kart handling.

This will provide the similar RAW experience of the F40, for a quarter of the price smile
