Hi all. Currently have a 458 Italia and absolutely love the car. But I tend to keep these things for a couple of years and then try something different.

So for my next step I'm thinking of a Huracan. Has anyone gone to or come from a Huracan and if so wondered if you had any views on both cars.

I have a niggling doubt about it: I have a feeling I could be disappointed by the Huracan after coming from the 458. I also thought about a 650S but not sold on turbo cars.

I think you may find the Huracan disappointing after the 458. 650S would be a much more capable alternative.

Same. I thought about a Huracan and couldn't see any advantages over the Ferrari. Went to look at one and walked away pretty easily.

I agree with you about not wanting a turbo also though so it is tricky...

I intended to get a Huracan until I drove a 650S. Definitely test drive both.

Great Problem to have! Go and try the 580-2 - I think you'll be impressed! However, you're in a great market place - so the world is your oyster!

Couldn't bring myself to ignore some of the truly cheapo, nasty, naff plastics used inside and out on the H
Keep trying to fall for the 650 but everytime I go and have a looky - just doesn't raise my pulse one BPM..

Upgrade to a 650S or stick to the 458 IMHO. Lambo looks good and sounds good but it aint a patch on 650S performance wise or dynamically

Thanks all for the very helpful comments. I can see a clear pattern forming in the responses!! Although my issue/concern is how the car looks/drives/makes you feel, I guess the lack of love goes to explain the 30k deperciation that appears to hitting one year old cars - which surprises me for a low volume new model.

I had this shortlist earlier in the year. I joined Auto Vivendi and spent 300 miles in each car getting to grips with it.

458 came third - didn't gel with it at all.

Huracan was the best car in the world after 15 miles but slipped back after I spent longer in it and it started to feel less involving.

Falling for a McLaren was completely unexpected but I bought a 650s Spider and it still blows me away. Fabulous car.

Read car magazines long term test of the bull..

but the longer we live with the LP610-4, the more we uncover its raging Lamborghini heart.

Around a year ago I went from a 458 to a Huracan… Can’t say I was that impressed with the change, my pros and cons were:

Cons

  • Plastic feeling interior, air vents and other bits of trim felt cheap especially if you have the carbon on the 458
  • Audi switchgear (just doesn’t feel special enough at this price point)
  • Seating position is too high especially in a car with such a low roofline, I kept checking the seat was on its lowest setting. I’m 5’11 and my eye line was right at the top of the windscreen
  • Steering feel was non-existent, felt like playing a computer game
  • There was some lag in the digital rev counter (although you do get used to this)
  • Poor quality stereo (I believe there is an upgrade available now)
  • Poor quality rear view camera
Pros

  • In my view a stunning looking piece of kit
  • The engine and drive train are immense
  • It is a seriously fast car
  • The noise
I had wanted a Lamborghini for years and I’m sad to say it didn’t quite live up to expectations. I kept the car for 6 weeks but now have a slight regret for not giving it more of a chance.

On the plus side I'm so glad I didn't sell the 458 before I was sure about the Huracan smile

Very sensible route to take, I think many people are so blown away by a Supercars abilities any negatives can become masked.

I didn't drive the 458 (despite being a Ferrari owner previously) because it was coming to the end of it's run (I was buying new).
I drove the Huracan fully expecting to buy one, I had an LP560 and a good relationship with the dealer so it just seemed a very natural progression. I also thought it was the most beautiful looking thing in the world. On the test drive I was blown away by the epic gearbox but had some reservations about the interior - the LP suffers the same 'plasticky' switchgear and ideally I wanted to move away from that - and the straight line performance. Don't misunderstand me it is a very fast car but it didn't feel like a big enough step up from my LP, perhaps mine was a quick one?

Upshot was that on leaving the dealers to go home I was very surprised that the car hadn't really got under my skin as I had expected it to, it left me feeling a bit flat which is never good if you're looking at spending north of 200K.

The 650S was my last option which to be honest I didn't think I would have reached. Next to the Huracan it was definitely 'funny looking' and though I'd heard good things the early 12C problems still loomed large and I wasn't sure at all.

Then I drove it.

Then I bought it, in a heartbeat.

I don't want to drone on like a fanboy but just drive one.

Very balanced mr_b!

IMHO Lamborghini's are V12's - so the V10's are just rebodied R8's (again - just my opinion). Maybe a real option is a nearly new Aventador?

Ferrari are just to hard to deal with - long story - but unless you're a very special customer - you can't buy the car that you want (TdF, LeFarrai etc.).

I'm coming around to the McLaren - but am put off by a few owners on this forum. Plus Flemke (who I understand is (or was) a die hard McLaren fan - and his reaction the being let down by the LT saga.

I had a brief look at Aventadors when I was last shopping Anjum, they just look so good it's almost like any issues can be forgiven and to hell with it!
The thing that steered me away was that I like to use my cars in all situations, I will drive them into town for shopping and I do have regular trips to Europe for the joy of the early morning roads. The thought of punting an Aventador around small German towns or trying to park it in French multi-storys bought me out in a cold sweat! The smaller stuff with a nose lift can just about be managed.

Good point about Flemke. He gets a lot of superfluous attention around here but there is no doubt he has acres of car knowledge and is very used to high end dealing, he's opinions should be paid careful attention. At the level I'm buying any shenanigans by Mclaren are invisible to me (I've found their service and attention to be second to none so I have no complaints) but I'm definitely aware of it for future stuff. I think the next car I'll be looking at will be the 650S replacement (720?) so it will be interesting to see where they're at when that is released.

I suppose for me the main worry above all is that driving is just getting so damn hard to enjoy these days, I wonder when spending a quarter of a million plus on a car will be worth doing any more. I've been lucky to own some nice cars and have some great driving experiences but our days are definitely numbered.

Definitely would not be put off by those people.I would have had the 675LT if i was in the position at the time.

If you are in the position to buy the 675LT Spider the i would jump at the chance as i think it will be amazing.

I don't know how you stand with McLaren as far as allocations but if you can i would.

FWIW, the two McLaren owners I've met since getting my car are proper car guys and we have subsequently become great friends...
