Importing insurance
Discussion
All being well I will be importing a 360 into the UK. The garage have offered me fully comp insurance with a 2K excess to drive it back but was wondering whether just to be safe, to get my own insurance so I am more in control if anything bad happens, with the bonus of dealing with a UK company.
Having never done this before, with VIN based insurance for importing, is this purely say, a 7 day policy or a 12 month policy that converts from VIN based to a standard UK policy having imported and done all the DVLA stuff?
Also any recommendations for insurance
Thanks
Chris

You will struggle with this these days, insurance companies really don't like insuring just on the chassis plate anymore. I had to do half and half with my Superleggera. Export plates covered the car third party and my insurance company covered the the loss/damage to the car. They couldn't cover fully until the car was fully UK registered.
Adrian Flux were happy to insure my Scuderia on its chassis number when I drove it back from Paris post purchase. Once back in the UK they gave me a month to get it imported on to UK plates and advised only essential driving.
As the import process took me longer than expected / nearer 2 months I kept them informed and they were happy to extend slightly.
No need to go to the expense of transporting it back. Me and my dad flew over and had a great boys drive back.
