Are 355's selling?
Discussion
In the process of renewing the insurance for my 355, so thought I'd look in the classified to see what kind of value I need to insure it for now. Couldn't quite believe the prices been asked. The cheapest RHD Berlinetta was around the £85k mark. For a manual RHD car like mine they all seem to be 6 figures now. Are they actually selling at this? My premium is going to jump a bit! Currently insured for £60k!
YIKES - £60k!!!! You won't even get a high mileage LHD for that!!
You'll need a big increase on that figure and yes I'm almost certain you'll be looking at six figures.
As it ever been a wright-off?
How many miles are on the clock?
Does it have a full history?
Colour combo?

I'm certainly not qualified to give you an exact figure, all I can say is that if it were mine, I would be looking to insure the car for at least £100 - £110k (depending on year).
Even if it's an early model, if you had to replace it tomorrow, you'd be lucky to get any change out of £100k - That's if you could find one!! (which you'd struggle to do, particularly a RHD manual).
There are specialist insurers out there who will insure for "actual value", rather than what many consider to be "market value"
I'm sure there are others within the community who will read this thread, who will be able to point you in the right direction?

Well Slade's Garage appear to be shifting them and with a several thousand pound increase on each subsequent one. I raised my insured value from £70k to £100 this year ('95 GTS, Red/Crema, 29k miles, history etc) and combined with my Dino Spider, for which I did the same, it was an uncomfortable hike if a seriously First World problem.

Has anyone on here bought a 355 in excess of 100K over the last 6 months or know of anyone who has?
Yes, one of our friends ( yes a genuine friend !!) bought a GTB in what I thought was rough condition in my view. But it was the best Red / cream RHD GTB at the time, he paid £110k
I don't think it was the best deal but hey he was desperate

My hunch is that yes they are selling them as whenever a model is marked as sold, when the next same model appears for sale it is at a higher price. If they were priced too high and therefore weren't selling and were going back to their owners (I'm assuming most of their stock is SOR) would Slades put prices up on subsequent cars for sale - I doubt it.A friend of mine, who has been dealing these sorts of classic cars for 30 years says that the higher end F40, Dino, 2.7 and other RS' market had gone up too far and is coming back a tad (look at how many Dinos are for sale and not selling)..but the more plain vanilla(!) 550, 328, 355 etc market still selling quite quickly. Watching Slades website seems to bear this out.

This is crazy. Last weekend I looked at a 30k km manual, mint for 65kgbp and thought it was expensive (in Switzerland). At this rate I should buy it yesterday.
Ps it was 40kgbp 2 years ago (same car)
The best thing about the Swiss market is the price trend charts on Comparis. There's a 355 on there that's been for sale for nearly six years. It started at CHF 95k, got gradually reduced into the 60s, and has now gone back up to CHF 78k. Good job they're tracking the market so closely otherwise they might accidentally sell the thing.Ps it was 40kgbp 2 years ago (same car)
Some more market data - I sold my 355 GTB manual 30k miles for £90k this year, a friend has bought a Spider for £99k
On a separate note I would be more concerned about the OP's 550 - £80k is WAY under market value (depending on spec). My 2001 car 25k miles with WSR spec (but not a WSR car) is insured for £110k and I think is probably worth closer to £125k

There are a lot more for sale that's for sure. 18 months ago there might only be 20-30 for sale on PH at any one time. 2x that at times now.
Or the fact its the end of summer / autumn and people always seem to want to get out at this time of year. ( which is exactly the wrong time to get out !!)Phib
