So my wife managed to prang the door of her CRV. Then flew off to New York and left me to deal with trying to get it fixed.

Went to the local bodyshop to see if they could fix it, and accidently met a man that was rebuilding a crashed Ferrari 360. He's over here from Ireland as it's easier to get parts. He saved £3k going to the US to buy a roof and has repaired the panels himself and done all of the welding and panel restroration. He's 'renting' garage space...But I think he's actually earning his keep for the local garage...

He's stripped the car to the metal and is repairing it to spec. He also found the time to refurb a pick up truck, an automotive lift and rebuild a compressor for the garage.

I'm in no way mechanically astute, but I was in awe of his skills and happy to talk to him, We chatted for an hour as he's not actually employed but is a hobbyist. He's invited me back whenever I want to check on the Ferrari, which I'm half tempted to do, as it's not a car I think I'll ever get to spend time with intimately.

Good times...

Must have been so frustrating to have left your cameraphone at home wink Seriously though, those sorts of chance happenings are great - when you're busy with some run of the mill task and it turns into something great. What was his plan for the car - was he going to keep it or was this something he was looking to sell on for profit? How badly was it damaged, would it be back to spec when he was done? Sorry - too many questions. Photo please smile What are people's opinions on crashed cars that have been carefully restored like this, personally it sounds like a great car for someone to enjoy it like it was meant to be and put the miles on regardless of value considerations.
