Ferrari 488 GTB at Spa F1 last weekend
Discussion
I need to see a 488 in the metal but from the pictures I've seen, considering that they're supposed to be a bit of a homage to the 3*8 GTB's design, the side intakes look to be a bit oversized and clumsy to Me - They lack the elegance that the 3*8 GTB's intakes had.
That may be out of necessity for function, but I can't help thinking that they could have been better integrated into the overall design. Instead it looks to Me as though they cut the intakes into the 458's quarter panels and then tried to stylise them afterwards to try to make them more acceptable.

Homage to the 308? I personally can't see it. Looks like a 'tidied up' 458 to me (and yes, the 458 was pretty tidy already). Except for the aforementioned side intakes which have a bit of an 'open wound' look about them. They don't appear very cohesive as part of the design, especially considering Ferrari's history of making these elements some of their cars' most unique and memorable features. I'll take one in TDF with yellow callipers please.

I saw this Ferrari 488 GTB in the car park opposite the start straight last Saturday at Spa in Belgium. First one I have seen in the flesh. Great looking car and I think maybe better looking than the 458 !! Shame about Vettels tyre in the race '!

Does ‘488 GTB’ stand for anything in particular?
Ferrari loves a name game, and in this case the 488 refers to the individual cylinder capacity of the new 3902cc twin-turbo V8.
GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, Italian for a grand tourer with coupe styling. The use of these three letters in this instance also pays homage to the 308 GTB – Ferrari’s first mid-rear-engined V8, which just happens to be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
What’s going on with the way the 488 GTB looks?
There’s another nod to the 308 in the scalloped shape of the air intakes on the side of the car, echoing those on the 488's forebear – albeit on the much larger scale necessitated by the new turbo engine’s cooling requirements......
To pay a homage to a previous model doesn't mean you have to replicate the design details exactly!
