Hi guys,

I've not been on here in a while so please bear with me as this may have been answered many times before.

Just part exchanged my lovely F360 for a F430 today.......for my F360 I've always used an optimate charger through my cigarette lighter which has worked well for the last five years. I've just run out the F430 and went to put the charger on as before but nothing......could there be a problem with the cigarette lighter or do I need to adjust my thinking with the F430?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Does cigarette lighter work with ignition turned off? If not, trickle charger will not work via the lighter socket.

I know they are not supplied to actually be read but the owners manual probably tells you not to use (charging) devices that have to be connected to the cigarette lighter

there are two sockets for the F430 as well, I believe one is not supposed to be used.

to be honest, just get under the passenger footwell and bolt on a hard wire connector for the optimate, makes things about 100 times easier..

Agree, that's what I did when I had a 430.

On a 430 there's a purpose made trickle charger socket below an easily removable plate under the bonnet on the driver's side just below the windscreen.

I had the same issue. On the 360 the cigarette lighter socket was 'live' all the time so you could trickle charge through it. on the 430, the two sockets are only live when the ignition is on, which stops you doing what we both used to do (despite them saying you shouldn't).

I didn't know about the charging point under the bonnet - presumably close to the battery kill switch?

On the 430 if you want to keep the alarm on/ tracker etc. where do you feed the trickle charger wire (top of slightly open pasenger window? or some other clever solution?)

Hang it out over the sill and close the door on the lead - like it tells you in the manual

Aaah the manual read that last night must have missed it; tried this morning as well, and yes it does work across the sill without creating a problem. Thank you and apologies for my poor observational skills.

No worries - sorry if I came over a bit short. Did have to check a few times myself to make sure it was safe to do so despite what the instructions say smile
