It's frustrating. The revs climb to a point where the really satisfying noise should start, but then it doesn't. That pitch range that provides that fizzing sensation in the pit of your stomach ... the gratification ... that 'resolved' feeling inside, ready for an upchange and the process to start again, doesn't seem to exist on these modern cars ... 488 ... BMW M3/4 ... F1 cars.
You have no idea what they are testing or limitations they have been asked to worked to (such as limiting the revs for some reason).
Testing a new Ferrari is not always about red-lining the engine for every single gear change, for every lap, every time the car is on track.
The car doesn't sound to me like it's being revved to anything like it's red-line and they appear to be short shifting. Perhaps they're testing how the car reacts to off-boost driving where the turbo's are being asked to wind up and then are not being used for full boost or testing the gearbox for drive-ability.
Personally, I'll wait for the proper test drives to be carried out before I make a judgement of the cars performance or noise.
(It would have probably made for a great episode of Top Gear!)

I suggest you watch it again then... at 22 seconds the thing is smoking out of the corner off the limiter. Like I said it looks like it has the pace - the rest is tbd. ..Testing a new Ferrari is not always about red-lining the engine for every single gear change, for every lap, every time the car is on track.

Good... but dull for a supercar.
I don't think "Dull" is the word I would use. Yes its different and horses for courses Speciale is a track based car and sounds awesome so naturally it seems more exciting but on the road in real life use I personally prefer the roof down experience of a carbon tubbed, Hydraulic suspension, active aero, "chews up and spits out 458's " 650S spider.
The 488 is going to lose that N/a V8 howl USP so presumably you think it will be just as "Dull" and in spider form a bit "wobbly" ?
King is dead - long live the KING!
