checking out costs prior to buying I have been surprised by the expense of insurance. Any pointers?

Mine was actually really cheap - surprisingly so. I used a broker called A Plan.

I am 33.
F430 Spider.
3k miles per year.
Tracker.
Garaged.
Medium risk postcode.

First supercar I have insured and I started a new policy for it to keep my max NCB on another car. £835 per year.

That does seem crazy in comparison! The chap I deal with is Andrew Brett who is based at the High Wycombe branch; there are two in the area and he's at the 'High Value Cars' branch. The number is 01494 427900.

He's worth a shot...

You could also try AIB insurance. They are known to pitch a reasonable deal too. Others worth checking out are Adrian Flux( hit and miss on competitiveness though)
If it's your first Ferrari then lock ons although quite comprehensive can sometimes turn down insuring the first year( refused me with max no claims, low risk area and previous big engined cars..bizarre) only way you'll know is to phone.

I went with admiral on a classic policy with an agreed value this time(many wouldn't touch admiral for a normal policy without agreed value) 45, 1yrs ncb on Ferrari 348 low risk area .....£230! I can't see me getting that on renewal...anywhere

With the way values are rising on Ferrari's at the moment (even 348's), I'd be a bit cautious having an agreed value on insurance as you could easily find yourself under-insured after a few months!

I've just renewed with Aviva - current value noted on the policy but confirmed that they would pay replacement value.
