Is the 458 Speciale to noisy for UK tracks?
Discussion
I don't have an answer for you but it does raise an interesting dilemma. I have track time booked at Silverstone on 22nd March for which there is a 102 dB noise limit. I'm only expecting to get a couple of laps in my F430 before I get black flagged for exceeding this.
If you can't exploit these cars fully on the road and circuit noise limits are overly restrictive what's the point in owning them?

Good question! I have booked on a noisy day in Spa - 107db - so should be fine. When I get mine delivered - the first thing I'm doing is measure the noise (you can download from the app store).
Overall though - we are in this counter intuitive position whereby track day cars are getting quieter (thanks NIMBYs - why move next to a race track then?) - and yet road cars (especially with aftermarket exhausts) are getting louder.....go figure.....!!!???

Go and get an ARDS race license and go on test days. High DB limits as race cars are much louder, better standard of drivers on track with you and no need to sit the same briefing every time you go out on track.
Now there's an idea. I've been looking for an excuse to get a racing license but could never justify it.Ha, Nigel
Pretty sure I do but I cannot find out how loud the car actually is.
We are off to Spa in May but they never sound check so no issues there ( famous last words ) !!!
In fairness good point re the ARDS. I have my license so maybe that is the best route. Shame is none of my friends do!!
Nigel, dust off that F40 or F50 and let's go play :-)

A friend has a 458 Speciale and it is very loud on track. We did a track day at Silverstone and it tripped the 105 DB drive by limit. He had some DB killers fitted and that sorted it out for Silverstone.
DB killers are complicate to fit due to the positioning of the exhausts. It requires some extension pipes to which the DB killers could be attached so needs sorting before you go to the track.
Bedford would be a no-go. Spa should be fine.

Well Silverstone is a 102 db drive by so car is too loud for that!
ARDS testing days the same. The noise limit is not raised that I am aware of.
I have been advised to leave the exhaust alone too. And also to make sure the traction control is off otherwise the brakes will be cooked (same as GT3 RS).
Spa it is then!!

You need to make sure you are on a day with loud single seater machinery. It's the only way I could get the scud on track as it failed everywhere else. ARDS testing days the same. The noise limit is not raised that I am aware of.

Yes it is 102 drive by which is about 108-110 db car dependant static , having done 3 24hours with all the noise issues we ahve got to understand testing .
We were getting 106 static in the pits but only 96 drive by so no issues all night but that was a Porshce 911 which are noisier at static testing.
But there were 2 Speciales there a black and red .
Only about 4 cars circulating for the last hour and a half so quiet and no rain ...

Is this definitely an option? No need for the car to be "race legal" (if that even means anything?) for example? Serious question as it sounds like a great way around the ridiculous track day noise problem.Gassing Station | Ferrari V8 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
