please can anyone here give me an idea on service costs etc on a F430

I am not concerned about tyres/fuel/road tax or insurance.

I am considering buying a car with approx 12000 miles and will only cover a max of 3000 miles a year

thanks

Servicing is done at two different intervals, a major mileage service every 12500 but starts at 6250 miles, or an annual minor service in between those mileages. The annual runs about 800 quid and the mileage service runs between 1500-1800 depending on the service.

Get a clutch reading on the car, a new clutch is in the 3000 region.

John.

What is interesting is that Ferrari main agents have reduced their prices for older cars to the point where there is much less point in using independent service agents. I have been told that for my 430 a standard service is £695 (+VAT probably, I can't remember. At one time they were double that.

Unfortunately an impossible question to answer and I speak from experience...

My friend and I both bought F430 Spiders at broadly the same time. Both with impecible history however mine ran up bills of close to £20k in a year only covering 4000 miles - his covered broadly the same range but never cost a penny.

Mine was (roughly):
Clutch is £3/4k
F1 Pump is a couple of grand
Actuator is common and is around £6k (cheaper option is £3k for a rebuild plus labour) but no warranty
All my ball joints, drop links and tie rods needed done - £4k
Roof seal needed replaced and roof adjusted - another £1500
Manifolds were replaced at a few grand
Had a £1200 major service

And the worrying part? Next to none of it was covered by the warranty the car came with.

It's complete hit or miss. Most will need something done to them, I think I was just unlucky. Make sure you have deep pockets just in case and you'll be fine.

And for info: my car had 29,000 miles on it.

Ferrari warranty or WarrantyWise/equivalent?

All that you've mentioned there is out of Power Warranty, there is a big divid when it comes to Ferrari warranty, I personally wouldn't like to test it, buy a Ferrari, you're on your own financially, that said there are some amazing owners, indies, enthusiasts that are all willing to help you out.

Go for it, you only live once and life is short enough, at least the years that count are!!

That's a real bummer. However, the F1 pump can be bought for a couple of hundred quid and ball joints etc can be/are better sorted outside of the main dealer network using non-oem parts (Hills)

F1 pump was brand new from Ferrari and fitted by them. It's located up behind the top of the wheel and was a bit of labour to put in.

As for the ball joints etc - I replaced all of mine with Hill parts where possible, albeit they only make so many replacement parts. If you do all four corners, top and bottom joints etc etc it will cost £3/4k once you throw in tie rods / track rod ends other parts and labour.

That's rough luck - and I feel for you.
Seems Ferrari are still capable of supplying Monday morning or Friday afternoon variants.

I remember a similar parallel with two identical 328 GTS's. The Friday afternoon one was owned by Tim Harvey's dad, and the fixing/servicing file was about 3 feet thick.
The other one had about £1500 spent on it in 3 years IIRC.

One could partially understand how it might happen with hand built models.

I wouldn't buy a supercar if you are worried about running costs. Just be prepared to spend a few grand every now and then.

I think this does demonstrate that if you are able to get your hands dirty you can save a lot. On my 360 I had to replace the F1 pump, which cost a couple of hundred £ (I think Ferrari wanted £1,500 if I recall correctly) and took me less than an hour to fit. I also had a problem with the a/c that took me ages to diagnose (and a Ferrari dealer failed to diagnose), but then I got the replacement part for £80 and it took me an evening to install it. If you have to rely on main agents, the running costs can be horrendous

I'd budget about £250 a month (which face it is less than the depreciation on a half decent daily and if you buy right, 430 depreciation is minimal) and you should be OK. Some years you would win, some you would lose.
Make sure you get a PPI from a marque specialist as many of the items listed above are detectable at inspection.

The 360 F1 pump is cheaper than the later F430 pump which needs to power the e-diff also. Unfortunately I don't think there is an 'alfa' equivalent 430 one. My 360 one was about £350 fitted by a specialist.

I plan my 360 maintenance across the year to prevent single big bills. The techs can be quieter in winter so you can get some good service deals then also. I do a lot of the basic stuff such a brakes and trim repairs etc myself.

You are here once so if you can, do it......

This sums it up nicely.

From my experience the actuator is what would worry me most when buying a 430 as it's the single biggest bill that I saw.

Hi,
I've had my 430 for a few months and the minor service interval is looming - I'm wondering if it's worth going for a bit of a drive to save myself from the ridiculous labour rates in the South East.
Keith, I saw this comment from you; would you mind telling me which garage gave you the estimate please?

Cheers.

(PS advice from anyone who can recommend a decent dealership also v welcome)

Was your warranty from Ferrari main dealer or from a third party?

I specifically bought one with Ferrari warranty to avoid the risk of £20k repairs in a year! So would be interested to know.

Am I right in thinking that even a Ferrari warranty isn't really worth the paper it is written on?

Have in the past found the factory warranty to be excellent but not used it recently.

I have had a couple of small problems - wheel vibration and a headlight washer cap cover came off.

Both times a technician from Ferrari drove to my house and either took the car to their local service centre or fixed it at my place by bringing the part with him. A perfect job was done in both cases, and the customer service was absolutely second to none and all done on warranty.

That was from Lyndhurst Ferrari, they are an absolutely fantastic dealership. I have a lot of confidence that they would make things right for customers who buy a car with Ferrari warranty from them. That is why I will always buy my Ferraris from them, I am not sure all dealerships were made equal, even when it comes to warranty work. that's why it would be interesting to find out about Edin's circumstances.

I should add, this is all on my F430 Spider which I bought for a fair price in summer 2014, so it's not like I bought a model with a big sticker price on it to get special treatment from them.
