488 "must have options"

how about the options that he would like.....
+1Remember you never, ever, get the money back spent on options, so there is no such thing as must have (unless you are the salesman on commission). Every 488 will sell, yes even the one with no options, so buy it and enjoy it. Shields don't make it drive any better and neither does the embossed Ferrari logo on the seat. But if you like the Daytona pattern on the seat then by all means order it, but it's worth bugger all over standard in real terms 5 years down the line.

There are several options that you need, and they will definitely affect your resale value.
1. Shields - dealers will chip you massively for not having them. They will even talk about changing the front wings to sort.
2. Steering wheel with LEDs. Again, one of the must haves. The non-CF wheel looks a bit low rent.
3. Seats - often need to be upgraded to Daytona's or racing. Personally, I would not buy a car without racing seats.
4. Wheels - the standard ones aren't as desirable as the sports ones. Again, they put off potential buyers.
5. Nav and ipod - to a lesser extent a requirement, but still a deal stopper for many.
I bet the don't chip you a fraction of the cost of the options1. Shields - dealers will chip you massively for not having them. They will even talk about changing the front wings to sort.

Yes a little bit premature, what sort of sums does your friend do when he says wants to spend 15k on options, yet there has been no base list price or any prices yet published for the 488. Surely step 1 is finding out the list price & then figuring your options budget, and as for 'must haves' again impossible to say until the options are actually published.

HR Owen have been taking £20k refundable deposits for 2 weeks. As they will give no written terms attaching to the deposit, what it gets you is unclear. Everyone knows "the list" is made up as dealers go along and as convenience / economics dictates. One might think that in order to meet any damages awarded against them in the Foxtons founder / Lambo service fire / negligence case, they are looking for a nil cost working cap facility provided by customers, but that would be speculation.
Other dealers are LOI only with no cash pending speccing.

All dealers start taking orders once a car is announced so everyone in the network is now busy. The car has had a fantastic reception! £20,000 is the amount Ferrari North Europe dictate that dealers take for an order. The reason everyone is a little unclear on delivery is that Ferrari have yet to tell the dealers exactly how many cars they will get per month, and when. Even when they do, its best to stay a little woolly as new cars nearly always suffer a production delay, especially RHD.
