Random 458 question: MPG

Morning. OK I know and agree the mpg on a 458 is not important etc. but just wondered, with all the electronics and displays etc why is there no way to see mpg? Is this just Ferrari saying "you don't need this information"? Is it the same across the model range?
I am willing to bet my house on the fact that when you bought your 458 saving on petrol wasn't your main concern!br d said:

Lol. Your house is safe! The mpg on what is my "toy" is purely incidental; was simply curious to know what it was and whether it is actually shown somewhere or if it is was omitted by ferrari because presumably it is deemed "vulgar" to know! :-) even my GT3 RS, which is essentially a road going racing car, showed it. What is strange is perhaps how (some) people who buy these things still consider fuel economy, not as a buying factor, but as an expense.
You've got a car that can shift in price by 5 figures in 12 months (up or down depending upon what you buy or who you believe), will cost you a 4 figure sum to service every year and a similar sum to insure, £500 to tax, and then tyres on top.
If the instruments are to be believed, these things rarely do more than 3k a year, which is 300 gallons of fuel at most, so about £1500.
Fuel is probably the smallest component of the running cost for most Ferrari owners, but it is probably indicative of the mindset of the people who've made enough to buy these things that "keeping an eye on the costs" is second nature, and probably part of how they got where they are in the first place.
Although in a different league and less mileage sensitive, I'm actually encouraged to use the maser, the wife even takes it to work. That way the service and repair costs are diluted and the car 'seems' even better value.

Hello,
I had similar curiosity about my F430 which shows the tank as full for what seemes like the first half of the tank and then nose dives off a cliff.
To that end I bought a wifi obd2 sender off ebay for £15 and an app for my iphone/ipad (Dash Command IIRC)and it sends through loads of info along with any fault codes the car may have in memory. Its pretty cool actually, though really none of the info is of any great benefit beyond curio value.
As for the MPG - I saw as low as 8mpg while really pushing it
Cheers

OT but does your app allow connection to both engine ECUs? Not many do and I try to keep a mental note of those that can.DevonPaul said:

Paul. I think there is a big difference between curiously and caring! I can't imagine anyone who owns these or similar cars cares how much fuel the car consumes!!! I find it amusing with all the other readout a from the OBC the fuel consumption is omitted! voicey said:

Hey Aldous,Honestly I don't really know... It has spent more time in my electrically misbehaving L322 RR than the 430. I'm in the UK atm, but when I get home at the weekend I'll take a look and drop you a message... My guess is probably not though...
Cheers
