I have owned my 360 now for 6 years and one thing has been bugging me since I got it. The original owner replaced the OEM stereo is part of the sound upgrade he did from new.
The original owner was a musician from one of the big Irish boy bands ( I can't remember which one or who he was my had), he clearly liked his music because as part of the upgrade he also put a sound box behind the seats and replace the door speakers as well as putting amplifier in the front compartment. This was all very well done, the speaker box was trimmed in matching tanned leather and was beautifully sculpted, it was also nonintrusive fitted so it could always be removed if needed. The speakers were also very well done, original grilles remain but upgraded speakers behind, I've actually taken one of the doors apart to resolve a different issue and found what looked like pretty good quality speakers and tweeters and some small amplifier device in each door.

The problem I got is that he changed the head unit to a pioneer head unit. The bit that is bugging me is that it does look more than a little bit Japanese and very much date the car.

So I'm considering going back to OEM, my concern is whether the OEM unit will be good enough to drive the amplifier and upgraded system is installed or whether in fact I will be taking a step backwards.

To be honest I don't drive the car much, and when I do I don't put the stereo on that much, but it is a good system.

Eurospares are advertising a new OEM head unit from a 430, on the plus side it looks OEM and has Bluetooth for hands-free which is a nice bonus, just wondered what the general thoughts were.

An indirect answer is that the original Becker (eg 6104 cd only or later models with nav too) was used to drive the optional amp & extra speakers which could be specified from new in 360/430/575 etc

A really cheap solution is to find the cassette version on Ebay and plug in an ipod lead to give you radio & ipod

One thing to check before you start (should find it somewhere online) is that the wiring is easily changed as it is possible the original ISO plug was replaced to suit the Pioneer but it could be it is ISO too

regarding the head unit, didn't Ferrari have an updated stereo advertised very recently for fitting to 360s - Clarion unit ? in the back of the FOC mags ?

I thought photographs might be useful, the car is in the garage under a dust cover at the moment, these are the best photos I have without getting it out to take some specifically.

This is the current head unit:

The following couple are pictures mainly taken of the seats, but you can see the speaker box behind them.
