Hi.

Wondering on here if anyone (430 or Scuderia) has swaped out their Cat's? Having looked at many exhaust options I've decided to leave the stock pipework in place, added a manual remote valve control unit but think a change of Cat's to 200 Cell (standard they are 600) would be the way to go to enhance the exhaust note. I spoke with one of the guys from Capristo and he's advised most of the improved noise comes from the Cats being changed with rear scilencer only making the quiet channel a tab louder (not what I'm after) and the replacement headers adding more power (nice but not really needed) and some tone to the noise.

Would be interested in hearing from anyone who's experimented here... Thx.

I've swapped out the OEM manifolds for some aftermarket ones so have no pre cats now. I will be removing the main cats next year and getting it remapped to remove CEL. I have a Tubi back box, so plan using tubi test pipe in place of the cats.
Just need to find the right place to do the mapping.

Just removing the pre cats has transformed the car and no risk of cracking OEM manifolds smile
The noise on full attack is amazing!

A supplier told me with de-cat / test pipe the sound is really hard and quite agricultural with the 200 cell cats it takes the edge off that and is just the right balance. Would you agree?

Alas I think the sound of the 360 CS still remains the pinnacle - IMO the perfect sound...

I'd agree Mark, sounds rough nono I'd leave it as is, any intention to enjoy it on track?

Think you're right mate. I will track it although only on the odd Monza / Ring trips. I also race a bike and as good as any car is they just even touch the sides compared to bikes so will focus my track time on two wheels..

I'm running a full Capristo on my 16M (headers, 200 cats and muffler) with remote valve control - epic!
Perfect sound and no drone. Blankets on headers, cats and muffler helps keeps everything cool.

Previously had an inconel valveless Tubi muffler with stock headers and cats - drone, drone, drone.

If I could hear a 430 without a decat in the flesh, but not much chance of that.
Youtube doesn't give the full picture imho.
The Tubi test pipe is less than £400 so I'm prepared to take a punt. Race cats are another option if no good.
(I don't have any drone currently)
One of my reasons is from a road trip across Europe this summer, after a few days in Germany on the Autobahn I got cel and limp mode from the cats getting too hot with not hanging around etc! wink

From the clips I hear it sounds raw - yes but also looses any refinement had with standard pipes. I've also heard of these dash errors being thrown up, just don’t think I can be doing with that. These things can be temperamental at the best of times without introducing potential issues...

I think the way to go would be the full Capristo system as they've clearly spent some time refining their product.

Do the 200 cell cats alone change the tone or volume of the exhaust note?

Massively as when fitted they allow through 90% more gas / capacity. They guy from Capristo said most of the sound (on the open channel) comes from here and not so much the headers...

Another point he made on full de-cat is the resulting loss of back pressure negatively impacts the engine - specifically the torque.

Interesting - thanks! I'll add them to the list (regular F430).

How loud is it with the valves open? I bet you're not even allowed to drive past a track let alone on one!

Thanks Tony - Straight pipes aren’t the issue as once the valves are open in essence it is open (Manifolds / Cats - Out). not seen the vid but I would hazard a guess that if it sounds nice then it could be down to 200 cell cats rather than de-cat
