2005 F430 history please
Discussion
Hi all. First post and hoping that someone may know this vehicle. Looking to purchase as it ticks all the boxes for me. Thanks in advance. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...
"year is irrelevant",
is it not though is it.
yes you buy on condition is a given, I buy every car on condition.
05 is a early car so there for should not be that price imo.
that's coming up for 10 years old, and things like bush's (wishbones) etc all start to take a big hit on older cars.
they made the cars from 05 to 09 and the prices reflect that going from £65k up to £89k for a late 09 model.
ALso that one is not from Ferrari so no 2 year warranty either. which is worth about £3k
Again red ones with crema seem to fetch the top end price of every year, and to make it sell even faster carbon driver zone cars sell faster also it seems.
ie find a red one with crema, low miles and carbon and the cars are sold within the week if not a daft price, a Lot of the cars for sale are sold when I phone up in that spec.
ALso talking to my Ferrari know it all friend ie an ex Ferrari sale man, I was told to go for a 08 onwards model, later manafolds and most niggles are sorted.
But I would buy a early car at the right price if I could see what work had been done on it.
non red, 05, NO CARBON, out of the Ferrari warranty is a £67k car imo even with those lower miles.
I see 3rd party dealers no different to private, so you should not pay more for a car from a 3rd party imo, infact I would rather buy private at that point and have a chat/meet the owner, I have written off buying a F430 from a 3rd party, so only looking at Private or Ferrari main dealer cars now. Unless it's a ferrari specialist garage.
Manifolds, Clutch life left and the whole front end bushing seems to be the key issues, then early cars seem to start having paint issues on the window seals, I guess if they have been outside for 9 winters and had a hard life for 10 years, hence buying on condition :-)
Drivers side seat bolster wear also is an issue on the older cars, but if owned by a porker new cars suffer that also. and strange delamanted headlights or fogging.
tyres and brakes pads are a given to look at with 3rd party dealers selling cars with low tyres quite common. where as Ferrari dealers will not sell you 2mm tyre life. And I was told to check rear lights for wobble.
And the biggy as we all know to part ex a Ferrari is a 15k loss resale spec is key if you don't plan to keep it for ever. which means to me it has to be Red/crema/Carbon to give it a fighting chance to resell on at top money.
to recap after me asking a lot of questions and looking into buying one.
1: Manifolds
2: front end bush's and wishbones.
3: clutch life left
4: front fogging light lens
5: rear wobbling lights
6: tyre tread left
7: pad life left
8: check paint at seals and down at the air inlets and of course road rash, if non could be a crash repair,
9: service history
10: Ferrari warranty left
11: seat bolster wear
12: any big service due big one at 30k miles and I guess at an AGE of ?
13: must have spec list, ie carbon dash driver zone etc.
14: electronic gremlins esp on early cars
15: engine mounts
16: front wheels for pot hole damage.
but as I said, engine mounts, manifolds, electrics and a few other bits were changed on 08 model cars but can still fail and need checking.
Any owners know of any thing else would be great to add to a buying check list.

Thank you. That's great information - much appreciated. The car is the colour combo I'm looking for so I guess I will have live with resale challenges. I do intend to keep it for many years so it's not an immediate concern. The low mileage is appealing but I will be sure to check on all the issues you have listed and negotiate accordingly. The service history is complete and all main dealer (JCT 600 in Leeds) and the manifolds were replaced at the last service. Annual service and dealer verification of key areas is included, tyres are 5mm. I'm off to see it this weekend and will go over all the areas in your post. Again - much appreciated and really useful.
If I'd known what I know now, I wouldn't have bothered with the warranty. The things I've worn out are just consumables and not covered anyway.
Dealers are not all they're cracked up to be either, after all , they only bought the car, they didn't build it nor even drive more than a few minutes.
My car's now done 35k and has been brilliant, I'm glad I wasn't suckered into paying more for low mileage, like the warranty, it doesn't guarantee much of anything on an older car.
That said, be careful all the same, there are plenty dishonest people out there to take your money.

I asked if the Manifolds were covered if I buy one from a Ferrari dealer and they said no ;-(
but there must be a case if you have a mk1 1 manifold and it cracks, to get help buying a mk2 one ?
I would def be fitting the 3rd party spring mounts if I had one.
what's a new one £6k and a 3rd party full system about 7 to 9k depending on make.

I was advised yesterday by my local dealer that fitting of the Capristo spring mounts would invalidate my Ferrari power warranty (needless to say upgrading the headers would do likewise) - this seems just plain crazy. Anyone heard similar?but there must be a case if you have a mk1 1 manifold and it cracks, to get help buying a mk2 one ?

That's a strong price...
Sorry for the thread drift but what does this mean for my car (Voicey)? If I wanted to sell, theoretically, my early 2006 Grgio Silverstone (on black) F430 F1 Spider, 32k on the clock FFSH, Carbon Ceramic brakes, Full Carbon Driving Zone, carbon steering wheel, wing badgets, S/S manifolds, recent clutch, tyres and full suspension refresh would be worth what...?

Clearly seems to be some room for negotiation on the price then. Does anyone have any other current examples to measure against? I've had a good look online as to what is available and there's not much below 70k with below 20k mileage on it. I know mileage isn't everything but low mileage plus a clean car plus FFSH generally indicates a well looked after vehicle - IMHO. Anything else available that people are aware of?

Sorry but I completely disagree. The most disasterous cars I have bought have been low mileage garage queens with lots of hidden issues. Cars with mileage have been driven and, assuming FFSH and lots of receipts, will be a much safe investment. Lots of items wear / go off sitting in storage. As an example, low mileage garage queens wont have hit next clutch, manifolds, ball joints, rubber seals etc and you'll be the one left to fix them down the road.
The mileage if correct and number of owners are plus points as is F1.
Negatives are exterior colour and interior colour and no ceramics.
As others have said interior at a push maybe but you can't live with that steering wheel !!
If you filter the adds by low to high, the similar spider at HWM has been there for best part of a year ? Albeit it's a manual.
This time of year on your car linked I would start with a 65 bid

OK. Thanks all. As I said I do like the colour combo and it's an F1 coupe that I'm after - not the spider. Some great pointers here as to what to look out for and I'm glad I asked the question. If everything checks out - and I can negotiate the right price - we'll hopefully meet up at some event somewhere in the future. I'll be the git with the red steering wheel
That will be 2 if you then, you and the fella that bought the car from Modena recently ;-)
I don't dislike the exterior or red interior, silver with red looks nice also, however they do appear to trade at a discount to other similar cars.
As has been said red with cream is the most popular, personally red with black or tan would be my first choice.
I currently have TDF with dark blue.
