I finally got a chance to go on quite a drive today in my new CS. However, one tiny problem. The Race mode switch doesn't seem to work. It was working fine when I test drove the car a few weeks back when purchasing and this is the first proper time out in the car since then.

Throughout my trip today I did not disable ASR. My understanding is that when the race mode button is pressed (irrespective of what gear you are in) the RACE light illuminates on the dash and the suspension, gear change and throttle response adjusts accordingly. Well, button pressed and no light or change in throttle/gear change/suspension. There are no other warning lights, all seems OK. So I'm thinking (hoping) it's a blown switch fuse or the button connection in the centre console has somehow worked its way loose and disconnected.

Anyway, am I doing anything wrong or have I identified the culprits. Perhaps this is a known issue. Anyway, I would welcome any input as panicking that I have a f**ked F1 box.

Do the valves still open at about 4000rpm?

Could be an electrical gremlin, try to switch off and recycle power at battery isolation switch and see if that cures it.

Yes, valves are opening fine after 4000rpm. Good point re power recycle, I'll try that. Thanks, CMD

Just a suggestion but when you start the car make sure that the word RACE is displayed on the dash on the left (I think) of the binnacle during the test of all the lights. It may be that RACE mode is working and its just the lamp that is faulty. I had a digit in the 8-bit gear display go out and then come back which is a common issue.

You can tell if RACE is working easily as you get a definite light thud on upshift gear change rather than nothing in normal mode.

Failing that a recycle of power is a good shout and then check if the wire is connected to the back of the button as these cars are ten years old. I have never heard of RACE mode not engaging so it must be something simple. I never use it personally or L.C. and turning ASR off just makes the back end jump out which will end in tears. You can drive the car pretty hard with all the controls on and it becomes an art to keep within the actions of the system.

I think the F1 box being faulty is unlikely as the normal fault with that is the chocolate pump and youd be broken down if that was the case.

HTH and I hope you enjoy the car.
