Hi
My CS has had one of its ECUs go down, which now needs replacing. They're only available from Ferrari as a pair!! Typically the cost is £000's. Could anyone suggest an alternative option, perhaps a standard used Modena unit could be reflashed? The guy who had my car previously has kindly agreed to send over 2 blank units that he has, but I've yet to discover if a totally blank ECU will accept the CS software. Should find that out today. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I'm 99% sure that the CS software can be flashed onto to blank ECu's off a regular 360. This guy should be able do it for you: http://www.clubscuderia.co.uk/forum/member.php?580...

I can take a look at your edu for you. Ive programmed many of these and never actually found an unrepairable unit (not saying yours isn't but that I am yet to see one).
pm me and ill reply with my number, I'm in the uk for the next 2 weeks and can take a look for you.

Hi Jason
I've tried to PM you, but I'm not able to on my phone for some reason. Could you drop me a pm and I'll give you a call? If you're in Stratford you're not too far from me!
I'll try you again tomorrow when I can get on to a computer. Cheers.

Yes a blank motronic will accept any software. An original (pair) can also be bench flashed with CS software, lots of tuners have been doing this for years. The reason Ferrari want to sell you a pair is that one is a Master that contains the immobiliser encryption. This then switches on the CAN to the second ecu. You can swap any ECU to the r/h bank but not the (coded) left. Which bank is not running, and how has it been diagnosed as ecu failure?

The right one failed, which controls the left throttle body. The car will start with the left throttle body disconnected, running on the right 4 cylinders. The ECUs were swapped and the problem swapped sides. Ferrari told me the ECU received its alarm data when it is connected, not imprinted?? Hopefully the blank ones will work with a data imprint from my good one!

Yes, a virgin ecu takes the immobiliser code as soon as the ignition is first switched on. Once done, it's coded to your car, which is why a used ecu won't work. It's likely the throttle driver part of the ecu has failed. Make sure the earth points adjascent to the ecu in the engine bay get cleaned up, and that the alternator harness is good. The only known, rare, failures I have seen have been caused by poor earths or a burnt main alternator wire.
