360 buying tips,advice

been looking at Porsches, 996 turbo, gt2 and gt3, but I also want to drive a 360 as a comparison and see where my heart takes me? 360 is the only Ferrari that interests me at my budget of around £45k.
it would be a coupe, and it would have to have a manual box
just interested in the main running costs involved in ownership, big jobs, issues, servicing etc.

always had my heart set on a 911, but thought I should try a Ferrari as well before spending the hard earned without comparison.
I didn't know a ph buyers guide existed, im not on this forum every hour of the day, so im not so familiar with it, especially since the format has recently changed.
i prefer some sort of personal experience and opinion and interaction with other owners rather than just searching previous threads anyway, is that not what a forum is for? if no one ever asked any questions and just looked in the archives then you would never have any active threads lol.
rather than moaning about me not searching, why don't you point me in the direction of said ph buyers guide, like the kind poster above you did pointing me to his buying guide, or give me some thoughts on your experience of owning a Ferrari (if you own one??) and try tempt me away from the porsches which have always been the car i wanted to own more than others (within my budget)

The problem with your logic of individual response is people get bored with posting the same stuff every few days so they don't and the response to regular identical threads deteriorates so they become less and less informative

I forgot rardley were just down the road! no 360 in stock atm but certainly worth a call and a chat.
I realise the same questions may get frustrating for regular forum users, but if you don't like it, just don't bother replying lol. for me part of the experience of getting a car like this is conversing with current owners who can shed light on there experiences, ups and downs etc, we all share the same passion!

I love the sound of the capristo and tubi exhausts, but quicksilver are a very local company to where I live, and I have dealt with paul in the past. I do like a noisy exhaust, so just wondered what they were like in comparison to something like the others mentioned.

Never had a problem with Quicksilver, generally a cheaper option than the preferred tubi / capristo, Q/Silver are more popular on 308, 328 and 348 models. You need to travel in a car with a system fitted before you commit, some systems give a deep bass resonance at around 2.5k rpm and your wife will not want to come with you (which may be a good thing) but can make distance travelling a bit uncomfortable - Tubi and Capristo come in stage 1,2 and 3 for noise level - 1 is the quietest and level 1 & 2 are most sort after.
Be careful of decatted cars - this can cause insurance problems as the car is not techinically legal on the road without them and OEM ones are expensive.
You can always de-valve the std system if you want a bit more rumble lower down the rev range, Mike Wheeler is a good chap at Rardley.
Inspections are highly recomended wherever you purchase from.

I had a quicksilver on my 355 and found it gave a real bad boomy resonance at 75-80 mph, I paid £400 for it from memory and eventually changed to a Capristo at £1250 ish, capristo is the weapon of choice on the 355.
On the 360 the tubi seems to be the preferred option by most but your looking at upwards of £1250 used.
I have a spider and tried the valve disconnect job whilst looking for a Tubi last summer, I'm still semi looking but the sound other than at tickover is plenty load enough with the roof down.
Most independents are happy to talk to you, have a look also over on clubscuderia for more info and then ferrarichat.com when you want full overload Ferrari fix.
Pistonheads is great but pretty dead this time of year, hence 8 pages of a Masserati not making someone a coffee :-)

I bought a manual 360 Modena just over a year ago and I've been really pleased with it. I can't really compare it to a 911 as I've only really had a quick drive in a 996 turbo years ago which although fast didn't really make me want one. A 911 maybe more usable day to day (although there are folk on here that use 360's every day with high mileages) but to me a 360 feels much more special.
I've done about 5K in mine and it's been very reliable - if you decide a 360 is the car for you then I'd recommend taking your time to finding the right car. I was looking for about a year (approx 30% are manuals) and the quality of cars varied massively. Generally they are considered pretty reliable, speak to some reputable Ferrari specialists (like those mentioned here - I'd highly recommend Tim @ Walkersport above), get it inspected, find a good independent specialist to maintain it and you should be fine. As with any car of this age/type, it's worthwhile have a bit of a slush fund just in case.
I'd say it's worth trying a manual and an F1. The F1 I tried was better than I thought it would be - although it had been updated with the CS software.
Depending who you use, I'd say approximate costs are:
Annual service £600
Cambelts (every 3 years) another £600
Clutch about £1500 - £2000
Balljoints are common and I think approx £200
It can be all the little jobs, keeping the car well maintained which add up so look for evidence of that in the service history not just an annual stamp in the book.

I do like 355. But tbh its just getting a little bit old now. I would prefer slightly newer 360.
Although that doesnt say I will discount the 355. You never know I may drive one and love it!
Tbh the running costs mentioned above dont worry me one bit! I have had cars worth a tenth of the price of a 360 with similar running costs lol.

I'd advise definitely driving as many as you can mate. I've had 348's and 355 - currently in a .7 gt3. Commenting just on the noise (same as you it is a massive put of the experience) the GT3 is an amazing sound (and I have a sports pipe) but it's no Ferrari.
