Ferrari 458 new owner initial thoughts and ownership thread
Discussion
Yeah that's my approach. Like today it's raining so I'll go to work as normal in my van but tomorrow the forecast is one of the best days for ages so Rarri out - 50 mile commute into work and probably the same home.
The way I look at it we are going to get bent over come service time, the way you need to drive it it will need rear tyres every 2k, theres a 15k premium for buying through a dealer. Life's too short just drive it. I did notice that all the used stock tends to have 20k on it I guess the guys that bought them new or with very low mileage will have lost way more than we could ever even try to loose. I think if you are buying at circa 20 (I sacrificed a bit of spec and went for one with a fresh service and 17500 miles) and probably be out of it with 24 to 26k on the clock hopefully if values recover in 2021 it might have been a 20k exercise which would work out at a similar burn rate to the new Lotus Evora I had in 2018.
Again my view is it's something to really savor for 2 years and then it's a handy tool to chop in for something else. I think at this level the 458 is about the best thing you can own for lack of depreciation which will be the main cost in owning any supercar these days.

Quote: 'So yes I have spoken with my supplying dealer and while there is a hit it’s worth noting to anybody it’s not the 20k everybody says on here . Nowhere near ( single digits)
Yes I came from an R8 and agree it was much more useable. My biggest issue is my three year old would come out in the R8 but doesn’t like the 458 which really limits when I can use it.
Yes my supplying dealer are at around a £5k hit for me.'
Maybe, but it all depends on the dealership. My dealer presently is offering approximately £15K less for my car and sells their car for asking price. I think the market for 458s presently is buoyant to sell, but not so good if you wish to p/ex a different Ferrari such as a F430. Most dealership are enjoying strong sales, but are well aware that this situation will not last and come November, values will be lower. Good time to sell (a 458), not so good to buy as I think prices have risen a bit.

Mines a 12/62. The trick with the downshifts is race mode and change down higher up the revs than you may think like 4/4.5k that gets it going
Been playing with it a bit more, it is the valves closing that mutes it all That said at motorway speeds going down the box in race mode it does blip the throttle but you can hardly hear it, i am talking like 6-7 k
Now add medium to hard braking to it, it sounds much better, maybe the valves stop open when you are on the brakes on the downshift.
Anyway remote valve ordered and has been delivered just got to fit it now.

It's a very basic spannering job, but if I remember correctly it's a tight squeeze at the back of the airbox to get at the valve connectors which is better if you have small hands. As an alternative you can drop the rear bumper off, which is a slightly longer but less fiddly job.PaulB1 said:
I've had my 458 for almost 3 years. Taken a 2012, 3300 mile car to 10,000 plus, would have been more without Covid. Just drive and forget about depreciation it's tomorrows problem.
7,000 miles in 3 years - you need to take more of your own advice. I've done 11,000 private sunny weekend miles, all in this country, across 3 different supercars in the last year and I don't think that's enough to justify the cost. Admittedly I tend to use the 430 Scuderia the least and keep it locally but even that has done 2,000 miles.Seems such a crime to have a Ferrari and not drive it, just like a beautiful girlfriend. No point letting the next person benefit and have all the fun

JCT where Reg and i both bought our car from had sold all of the 6 they had in last time I spoke to them!
I also got mine from there, so that is 3 of us. In regards to millage and depreciation, as did not have mine on a PCP i have not constraints on how many miles i can do other than the insurance have limited me to 5000 per year. I plan you use mine like i did my F430.
And talking about my 430, i put 20,000 miles on it in 5 year and sold it for £30k more than i paid for it, now i dont see the 458 doing that in 5 years, but i dont think i am going to loose my shirt, who knows and to be honest i dont care.
I have never brought any of my cars and worried about how much i will loose, that can take the shine off the ownership IMO

I am very hands on so i am not to worried about it, just going to work out which way to get to the connectors.Take the bumper off
Take the airbox off
Take the under tray off
hopefully can take a look at the weekend
Well a most unexpected day today for me I've had the 458 on track!
This was a bit random but my usual track hack has some metal bits floating about in the oil so had to park that whilst we redo some bearings. I had the day booked and some friends attending that I hadn't seen for a while so I threw caution to the wind and decided to take the Fez!
Only stayed the morning and did 3 little sessions just taking mates out but it was really good and not something I really ever thought I would do with it! I took it pretty steady and still lapped only 10 seconds a lap slower than my 400 bhp VX220 track car which I thought was pretty impressive considering I was really driving like miss Daisy! It felt pretty planted I left it in race there was no heroics with the other two settings! A couple of the tighter corners you could really feel the electronics interfering but in the main its not too intrusive. My passengers really enjoyed it anyway it's really a very nice part of the ownership of the car to share it with people.

Yeah couple of Radicals there today.
The brakes were very good actually no problems I think they are properly bedded in now so certainly no SSF moments we have a proper bite on the pads now. I wasn't really braking late or really leaning on them but there was good modulation and one of my passengers did comment he thought the brakes were awesome so we must be getting there!

Glad your enjoying
I have found it a bit hard to own a 458 so far.
Great if driven a 8/10 pretty bland below
Throttle crazy
Gearbox is good but does feel a tad lazy compared to newer cars imo still very fast
Engine just beautiful as is gearbox
Looks to die for
Interior still decent but miss’s tech
Biggest issue is how you use it, if you stick miles on it.. your doomed imo which means limited use which means its very expensive imo.. Somthing bothers me with this as i pulled 400 miles in a few weeks which is around 25% of the yearly average and i ended up turning down meets due to mileage
Not sure what to do
I have to admit to having similar experiences and currently considering whether to sell mine on again and have actually even had some offers that aren’t to painful. I have found it a bit hard to own a 458 so far.
