Spotted you and the Lotus crowd at Misurina yesterday. I was going to ask Mrs Pax to pull over so we could say hello but you were just leaving.

What’s your view of Cortina? We’d never visited but had heard great things so we stopped to try to find a nice place for lunch but it was all a bit disappointing so we decided to press on (after making four rounds of the one way loop which was three more than we’d planned!).

Enjoy Slovenia, hopefully the weather there is better than in the Alps/Dolomites.

Cortina is great, stayed there many times. its more of a centre / base. There is some excellent walking / hikes. Tre Cimi, Cinque Torri (also amazing WW1 trenches - I think Enzo Ferrari may have fought there - or similar), Lago Di Braies, Seceda, Lake Sorapiss.

Then there are the passes that you can do in a big 2-4 hour loop, Falzarego - Giau - Gardena - Sella - Pordoi. All amazing.

You can also see all the old James bond locations and Olympic ski jumps / toboggan runs. There is a great cheap Pizza / Italian Restaurant called Cinque Torri in the town centre and highly recommend Rosapetra Spa to stay, it has a Michelin star restaurant, if that's your thing. The Spa is amazing and its small / boutique style.

Its also only 4 hours from Slovenia - Lake Bled. Anyone heading that way who wants a driving challenge (not for the faint hearted) you should drive up the Mangart Saddle, scariest road I have ever driven, would only recommend if its nice weather.

Nice spot when things are open. Shame you couldn’t say hi!

But the roads around that area are absolutely superb. Could do a week exploring.

I’m back with Mrs Leg in the F12 next month.

Well Slovenian roads are crap and I have no idea why people think the Vrsic is any good. One side is as rough as a Hull docker.

That’s that one done. Next this Friday in my T6.1 down to Cervinia mountain biking.

Summary

Roadtrip to Holland, germany, Strasbourg, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Holland.

Route was:

Rotterdam
Strasbourg
Chur
Bormio
Merano
Namlos pass (met up with friends)
Innsbruck
Cortina
Kronsjka Gora
Schladming
Würzburg

amongst others I took in the Julier, Bormio side of the Stelvio, Umbrail pass, Namlos pass, Brenner pass, Penne pass, loads of passes near Cortina (we had two nights there), Vrsic pass (see below), Alpenstrasse, Grossglockner, karting at Schladming and Motorworld.

First time we’ve been to Slovenia. I’ve kept it in for my roadtrip with my wife next month as there’s lots to see and do but I’ve removed it from my next lads road trip in September as the roads are bloody awful.

Cortina on the other hand is superb.
