What can I say. I hit 70 (years, not mph) later this year and happily drive my 458 spider and tour Europe (with Mrs Wombat) in my Portofino. I didn’t get my first Ferrari until I was in my late 40s but I’m of the old school that believes that (other than for property) you save up for things, especially toys. None of this finance nonsense.

Time is also moving on and I personally don’t have so many years left where I can pull off driving a 458 ;-)

If you want one, get one. Unless you really can’t afford it, you will enjoy every moment owning it.

Yeah 50 + year old guys in a Ferrari is not a good look. Too many people deliberate for years and determine its always too expensive but YOLO and you cant take it with you
Why does this crap keep coming up.

Surely you do become more cool though? It’s the progressive loss of hair up top that allows the cooling… smile

I’m having quite a pickle atm. Want to buy a 488 at the moment, some cars have been on the market for over a year yet the dealers won’t take my 997 gt3 rs in px. Strange. Good spec cars seeming to sell quite quickly but good 458’s are pretty much 488 money now too.

I am also based in london and scared if I park it outside a restaurant it’ll go missing!!banghead

Sell your GT3 RS private or sell to a Porsche specialist as I thought / think the 997 GT3 market is still pretty strong, especially as they are manuals.

I am bias but I'd take the 458, harder to steal and for me personally a far more fun car at legal speeds and easy to daily. I just found the 488/F8 somewhat boring, lack of sound and too grippy to enjoy on road without going obnoxiously fast.

surprised they wouldn't want a 9973RS - they are usually about as liquid as money!
should be a relatively easy sell privately, esp if it's got a good history

I am considering a 458. Fortunately I am not needing finance and intend to keep the car for 5 years +. It will be my first Ferrari. Based upon excellent posts across the super car forums I have identified what I think are worthwhile options to have.
This car looks a good one.

Any experienced people on here have any input on the spec?

458 market is a bit weird, not much seems to be moving and lots of private sellers with ads priced higher than independents and even main dealers. Meridien has just dropped their Grigio Titanio Italia from £140 to £130k. Craig what have you got yours listed for and what's the highest dealer bid you've managed to get?

458 Market is stagnant and full of overpriced poor spec cars at mo IMHO
If a decent spec, sensibly prced car appears its gone almost instantly so he who hesitates ....

Also the trade to retail price gap is massive so current owners thinking they have a £170k car and getting bid £130k are refusing to sell.

Prices are on a downward trend and a big price correction is inevitable so be prepared to swallow a brave pill if you buy a mediocre example at top dollar.
Happy hunting but as always buyer beware

if they do hit £100k for good examples then that really is a good chance

Much as I wish they would, I can't see that happening for a while.

For fun, my F430 is up for sale and the eBay message asked:

Hi ,
How many owners , last service ? Cam belts , any accident damage , manual or auto box ?
Thanks

I swear people are either just lazy, a chancer or simply bored (all the info is on the ad, apart from the accident thing because there is none).

They're already there for Trade prices, retail is a different ballgame though

I've had my 458 now for nearly five years, during peaks of Covid when car prices were mental and the mileage on my car was circa 25,000 miles, WBAC offers were around 125k.

For fun I've just checked again, now just shy of 27,000 miles and much to my surprise their offer is around 115k, so I do not consider a 10k drop trade that much considering the state of the car market in general with all car values down.

I am fortunate I have a good spec car, rare giallo triplo strato Italia, full carbon / suede interior, buckets, forged diamond cut wheels, black gloss roof and its a 2014 car with full Ferrari service history.

I suspect an F dealer would be offering 110-120k trade for it and then retailing it around 145-155k due to the spec and adding in the warranty.

As such private I'd probably list the car around 140k, the car is not for sale by the way but my view is on private listings if the seller needs to be able to offer the buyer a better price than a dealership by at least 10k typically, maybe more. Private seller still gets more money than a trade offer but the buyer is also saving at least 10k over from buying from a dealer due to added risk.

If say in another 2-3 years my car is on 30k plus and trade offers are around 100k I'd be happy, having owned the car for seven years.

well said, it makes me happy to see some owners have full of logic, not like the delusional guys asking dealer price as a private seller.

you are right, many cars are mediocre spec with some issues. I was about to pull trigger on 3 cars lately but the prices and conditions of the cars don't match at all. I think the owners are delusional because of the covid era prices

That's a stunning spec btw, wouldn't last long on any dealer's forecourt and as one of the later cars in the production run it would command a premium

Same thought process is going for me now. Prices for a coupe really are 120k and from a Ferrari dealer at 130-135k now. I have rethought the process and will be going for a spider variant at the 150 range. I know many don't like the 488's but you do really find better colour/spec options so I am also considering a 488 spider also. Not in a rush so will see how things go. I have been tracking all cars complied into a spreadsheet and seeing the drops makes me want to wait to save an additional 10-20k by waiting an extra few months.

What do ppl call a “good spec” though, and/or consider good options? I suspect my ideas may differ to many of you.
Carbon everything for instance is horrific to me. Racing bucket seats likewise.
