Squashy bags are the answer plus one suit carrier for jacket(s) and/or nice dresses. Suit carrier lies flat in front boot on top of squashy bags and more squashy bags behind the seats. Using this approach Mrs Wombat and I have done lots of 2 week+ road trips in the 458 including, on one occasion, a dinner suit and a long evening dress. We always drive from/to UK when touring Italy etc but if you’re having the car transported, put the luggage in it and just fly out with hand baggage.

I'm planning on a road trip in September. Starting in Monaco and ending somewhere on Italy's west coast.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone know where to get any luggage that'll make the most of the storage space in the front boot and behind the seats of a 488? I am not paying £5000 for Ferrari luggage.

Hasn't anyone in China done a knock off? biggrin

2) Any recommendations for transporting the car to and from Europe? I don't want to drive it to the south of France.
I had custom leather luggage made for my 458; 2 bags that fit perfectly into the front boot then two that slotted behind the seats.

Cost me about £1000 back in 2019 from a company in Redditch I went to see.

I kept them after I sold the car as they are pretty useful and I figured the dealer would just chuck em away anyhow.

The bespoke luggage company in Redditch is Bagworld. The prices for bespoke leather bags for a 458 are still around the £1k mark. Colin, who owns the company is a lovely guy, very helpful and enthusiastic. I had a set made last summer for my 458 and we used it when touring Italy in the car, it was a perfect fit and excellent value for money

I’d never heard of Bagworld but I just looked at their website and am impressed. If I still toured the 458 I’d seriously consider a set but we do all our touring in a Portofino now and they don’t seem to cover that. In the Portofino, if you accept not having the roof down, you can put one large or two pretty small cases in the boot (thread drift I know).

I just looked at their website. That's my old 458 and my luggage in the pics.

They measured it all up for me on site so I think if the guy below with the portofino wanted something made, they'd do it from the dimensions of the car etc with you.

Thanks for all the answers.

The squishy bag idea along with a standard bag was where I was heading to, but I'll give Bagword a look.

We did 10 days from the UK including tennis rackets, and back with a case of wine and a case of Champagne, just fine.

I was amazed, squishy bags, suit carrier and some normal bags.

Just spoken to Colin. Couldn't agree more, total gent and problem solved.

Thanks for the recommendations for Bagworld.

I did something very similar last year in my 458. I bought a set of cheap but nice bags that fitted perfectly in the boot and behind the seats. I had a suit/dress bag on top of the bags in the boot. I’m pretty sure the 488 has the same dimensions ? If you want more info you can PM me.

I drove down to Monza via Monaco and Portofino. I had the car transported back for £2500 all in.

It was an excellent trip - beware of valet parking though. There were a few close calls as they weren’t used to right hand drive.

My , my , my .

Monogrammed bespoke luggage for a European motoring trip !

Good , maybe even essential , for a school tuck-box , but surely totally unnecessary for a tour that probably doesn't involve sleeping in a dormitary?

Do what I do and slum it like a peasant - use ordinary black bin bags to fully utilise every cubic millimetre of available boot space .

When the doors rise towards the heavens , and the bin bags come out , you'll have maximised your luggage carying capacity , and as a bonus given your hosts something to smile about . Clothes can always be pressed , while real Ecuadorian Panamas always roll up and unroll without any Toquilla palm straws being harmed . smile + wink

Car…how does your wife feel about shoving her clothes in a bin bag?
I can assure you that my wife will NOT be looking upon me fondly should I suggest such a thing!

When I had a Morgan Aero I used supermarket bags, to get every available inch of space.

Always looked supremely classy, rolling up at some French Chateau/Nurburgring hotel and removing a load of Carrefour bags from various parts of the car.

Wife needs to be introduced to the concept of ironing in that case!

I was so determined to have a well presented boot that I created a false floor for all my gubbins. Also stopped my bags getting near anything oily.

I don't think binbags will do too well either in the hold or cabin of the plane.

Appreciate that.

For the price of Bagworld I'm just going to get some made there.

Ooh…good man Greg! Congrats. That’s an absolute beauty. I think that’s the most sublime spec I’ve seen on a Ferrari in a long time, maybe ever. I’d have been down to DLs in a lightning flash if it was in my budget, which sadly it isn’t. Anyway, enjoy!
