I'm thinking of selling the Boxster S and buying a 964 RS (or Noble M12).
It seems that buying one is a bit of a minefield...this forum has been a big help so far though.
Does anyone have any opinions on this car at Runnymede Motors in Penn? (www.runnymedemotorcompany.com)

If the RSR body is indeed works fitted, there be no problems re resale value.
To determine if the body kit is worth the extra costs, just compare prices from RS to RSR:
€40k...€45k should buy you a decent RS on the continent.
Asked prices for RSR are €77k, €70k, €60k (picked from http://uk.mobile.de )
GBP35k are €52.5k-ish (compared UK to continental prices here too), so the bodykit costs ~€10k, or the reduction to an original RSR is ~€20k.
Personally I'd go for an RS without bodykit, even if prices were equal
Well I think it looks the dog's bollocks... amazing machine. However, I'd check it is an actual RS not just a stripped C2, or even a Cup car, as the market for RSs is more stable and established. So it needs a proper build number, If it's 1991 it will be an early one, sub 500, I should guess.
Iguana MAY be right about the price being too high, even if genuine, but not by much. It is certainly too much if just a conversion, but there are some tasty and expensive bits on there in any case. I can't see it going for any less than 28-29k. My guess is that it was bought in for that kind of figure. An offer of 32 wouldn't be unreasonable, without knowing more about the car etc.

Personally I think it is too expensive! Cars that should command the highest value are those that are in the their original state (incl. low mileage, condition etc..). It is even missing the original mag wheels
I am not a fan of modified cars (well ones not modified by me anyway! ), and certainly don't believe you should pay top book; in fact I think it has an adverse affect on the value!

Not sure about this one....Original owner ordered RSR bodywork,the front wings show this.No mention of mileage in the add.
A couple of things that would make me look into the preperation of the car a little further,firstly they look like they are Recaros and not the Porsche licence Recaros that would have come with the car.Secondly,the steering wheel is totally standard 964 or Rs by the look,I thought that having the car stripped down and fitted with a welded matter cage would have meant a cup steering wheel.I just think it makes a difference to the value if the mods have been done from new at the factory or over the years since.
A nice looking car if you can get it at a price you are happy with.

just to add fuel to the fire, if you ( clarkey) are jacking in a boxster S for a 964RS or Noble then you are clearly trackday/circuit/airfield oriented and want the pure unadulterated hardcore experience. The 964RS that fits best will be LHD....which will compromised for UK roads/car park machines...but cheaper and maybe (!) slower on track than the Noble. expect stone chips and battle scars either before or after purchase. forget peace and quiet but be cosseted by appreciation in value

Oldtimer, you've summed up my reasons for being interested in the RS perfectly. I had a Caterham 7 R500 for a while, and miss track days very much. A good 964 RS fits the bill perfectly and will be better suited to occasional road use than the (scary) R500. Although the Boxster is a fine car, I find it a little sterile and almost boring.
Noble or 964RS is a tricky decision. The Noble is more modern, faster, and easier to find. The 964 is far cheaper to run, but a far riskier purchase....both are superb cars but meet the same objective in a very different way.
Melv, I've emailed the owner of the LHD car but haven't had a reply as yet. On the face of it, it seems just what I'm after. I can't see the benefit of spending the extra on a car just because it is RHD.

Mmmmmm a Noble - how much will a good second hand one cost? Far more than a 964 rs clubsport (they are out there, be patient), which on track will me almost similar in lap times!!
How do I know - I was at Bedford a couple of months ago, and Don Palmer (Mr Sideways) was driving his Noble, and my rs cs was easily equal In fact, (contentious I know) I have yet to come across a well-driven Noble on track – in my experience you appreciate!
Also, how much will the Noble be worth in three years time?!
As for the R500, really don't fancy a 5k rebuild every year! Which I am sure you experienced.
At least with the Porsche you can drive to the track, drive the backside off the car, and then drive home without any problems, and service is it once a year!
