Hi All,

Car is in at a Porsche specialist near Derby for a bunch of work on its innards and other bits . These guys have a great reputation and I'm happy enough with the quote given the car has been largely dormant over the last 7 years. Still fruity but hey-ho...

I asked them about the scuttle and a repaint but they are reluctant to recommend anyone for the work. It appears they have previously suggested someone and the work wasn't great to their eyes.

The car will be coming out from the Specialist around the 22nd of June and ideally I'd have someone near-ish and/or North to/of Derby, that comes with a good rep, to do the work before I bring it home to Scotland.

Recommendations would be welcomed!

Thanks.

If you bring it up to Scotland first you could take it to Ecosse Automotive in Boness who have done both corners on mine, Not cheap but done right!

There are the expert repairers like Road and Race in Manchester, or you could go to the places that know how to do a ground up restoration like Rennsport, Ninemeister etc.

Thanks! I'll call them for sure. How much if you don't mind me asking?

There’s the official body shop in Derby, Chartwells, been for a visit looked top quality.

It’s not going to be cheap, a chap picked up a 991 turbo that had the usual front end, wings, bonnet and bumper for £2.5k. So a bit more than usual. But nice job.

Yorkshire isn’t a massive distance, could speak to Sam Lander in Malton. Porches Specialist could possibly do the body work and would recommend a paint shop to finish. There’s a few good ones around us.

Id be looking for somewhere that has done lots of those kind of resto jobs

No personal experience, but I know others with 964s that have been to Riviera and had a good job. also much closer than Yorkshire or Scotland!

MLR Porsche in Stoke on Trent, owned by Marc Clowes who was Ninemeisters custom build guy for years until he left a couple of years ago.
As far as I know they have long waiting lists, but worth a phone call, he's well known and very good.

I tried to mail you but it wouldn't go through. I got inner wing welding done and 2 new wings aswell as front end paint so would need to go through bill, Let's just say they were trying to save the front wings when they took them off and it took 7 hours to take a front wing off at £70hour so you can see how costs add up.

They did my Targa 3.2 a few years back when it was in the hands of a previous owner. From the receipt, 100+ photos and update correspondence they spent 300+ hours on the body restoration! The quality of the paintwork is outstanding.
