LED H1 headlight bulbs in a 993
Discussion
Hello all
Has anyone tried this as a direct replacement for the H1 halogen bulbs for the dipped beam headlight?
One of my halogen bulbs needs replacing so I did a little digging and found "Zethors H1 LED bulbs" got good reviews and are available on Amazon (good reviews there too). But different applications have different results so anyone???
For info, I have relatively new headlight units so pretty much stone chip free which I know affects light performance significantly on older cars.
Thanks

The 'go to' option for 993 owners, for many years, has been the Bergvill FX HID offering. Tore is now offering a 'v3' which I am running on my own 993, having run his v2 for many years. See below:
https://www.bergvillfx.com/products/t-light-993-he...
The bundle linked above includes a HID solution for low beams and LED solution for high beams.
The HID is a significant improvement over factory, whereas the LED is a fantastic improvement over factory, really effective.

At least you'll know it's been tried/tested for a 993.

If, however, you're set on LED for low beam, you'll probably want to consider Gert's option:One of my halogen bulbs needs replacing so I did a little digging and found "Zethors H1 LED bulbs" got good reviews and are available on Amazon (good reviews there too). Can't help with your direct question, but same as Ch3t I have been running Tore's HID dipped-beam-only solution for many years. It's all the light you'd ever need, always passes the MOT, and doesn't dazzle oncoming traffic or destroy your night-vision as I find LEDs do to me.
This is how it looks (with no photo manipulation)
If you add Morimotos into the mix (with the solenoid to lift the cut-off bar out of the way for full-beam) this is what you see without any full-beam bulbs.

Thanks OC.
Thanks to not really looking very closely (I was going from (bad) memory a bit), that I have HIDs already (the halogen Nightbreakers I fitted a few years back were for the full beams).
If one of these HID dipped beams is on, but dimmer than the other is that likely to be the bulb or another part of the HID set-up?

...dunno, but the answer is again to ask Tore. Could be bulb or ballast resistor or...... but Tore will be able to help.

So I think this all comes down to a bit of paranoia and becoming too accustomed to also driving a modern car with modern headlights, and making an unfair comparison with the poor old 993's lights.
I took it out late night last week, testing the LED full beams (which are great btw) and I think the dipped headlights are in fact both fine. Possibly it was just the angle I was looking at it from, which (with the paranoia) made me think something was wrong.
Furthermore, it just sailed through its MOT with a clean bill of health for another 12 months!

I know nothing about headlights (and the jargon), so can I ask, is the top photo from the item that CH3t mentions, 'Bergvill FX HID offering'?This is how it looks (with no photo manipulation)

speficially this: https://www.bergvillfx.com/products/t-light-993-he...
and is it fairly straightforward to fit that kit to my 993? or would I have to take it somewhere to be done?

My old 981 had basic halogen headlights. I upgraded to the Philips LED lights and it was a transformation. I was waiting for a reputable brand to bring out a product. I’ve moved the car on now but outside of PSE valve mod it was the single best mod I did on the car.
PSE valve mod? Tell me more!A993LAD said:
Blimey, this won't do. It won't do at all.
A 993, on the road, between October and April? Good grief man what are you doing?
Also, headlight performance is irrelevant because nobody uses a 993 in the dark (or in the winter).
Return your 993 to your heated garage immediately.
Yep my Garage Queen is tucked away with a trickle charger attached. It won't go out until the roads are salt free and dry. I did fit HID dipped beam head lights years back. However, the headlight performance is immaterial as it rarely goes out in the dark. Same with my windscreen wipers. They just never get used. A 993, on the road, between October and April? Good grief man what are you doing?

Mine is anything but a garage queen, used like it was meant to be. 211,000 miles and climbing but still a great drive. Best car I've ever owned.
