Machine shop for aircooled work in the South/South East
Discussion
How old ? If you wanted a 964 or 993 I’d probably give RPM a try.
A lot of people like JAZ in St Albans for the older cars but I have also heard it can be difficult sometimes keeping a focus on work when they have cars.
Paragon have a good reputation more on the sales side but never heard a bad word about them…don’t know what age of cars they look after but they do occasionally sell the older cars. Mate of mine had a 993 looked after by Parr for a long time who he said were good (but expensive).
My early 70’s car goes to Tuthill once a year for a service/fettle (there is always something that needs doing)…they’ve been very good in terms of working to a deadline and they’ve done a great job with the car and you can actually book your car in….what a novelty ! Invoices have been pretty reasonable.
Sportwagen are about the best there is for bodywork and pain but you’ll have to wait….I believe JAZ has some level of ownership shareholding now.
I’d avoid JZM…the guy (Steve McHale) that had all the expertise on the older cars retired a few years ago. They’re very much focused on the newer cars.

Classic & Modern in Bracknell do most of the engine machining for the Porsche Indy's in the area.
They reground my air-cooled crank and sorted my warped mag 7R cases.
They also do the later m96 rebores, etc.
This was great advice, thank you. Walking distance from my house! They reground my air-cooled crank and sorted my warped mag 7R cases.

Funnily enough I'm local to Bracknell and need some (non-Porsche) cylinder head work doing, was looking for a recommendation.
My old workplace was a stone's throw from them in Great Hollands, I used to occasionally nip to the Post Office there for many years but had forgotten about them since my work relocated. .
I will give them a call.
