Wanting a 993 but lacking confidence!
Discussion
Hi, just wanted to run this past the more experienced 993 owners amongst you. I'm thinking of buying a 993 with 200K miles which has had a lot of restorative work including carbon roof, Carrera S front bumper with Carrera S ‘split’ rear spoiler, 17″ ‘993 Cup2’ design alloy wheels, It had a full engine rebuild 5000 miles ago with low ratio gearbox with LSD, Lightweight clutch and flywheel and sports cams, Bilstein fully adjustable PSS10 suspension, RS style interior with lightweight door cards, RS steering wheel, Le Mans style gear lever and is 100 kg lighter than standard. It's had a glass out respray in 2021.
I'm sure I'd love driving it but don't have enough knowledge to know if this would be a desirable car or whether anything would put off those with greater experience of the marque than I have. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

So are you really asking about resale value/desirability?If so you will have a limited audience, but somewhere somewhen there will be another driver who wants a 993 to... drive.
It's up for 80k
I figure:
8/10k for the respray assuming it's a good job
8-14k for the rebuild depending on what was done and who did it
2-3k for the LSD assuming it's not just a 2 plate OEM
3k for carbon roof
4-5k for suspension refresh
The gear box days short ratio, is it just a G21? Custom ratios?
Interior, just some RS door cards, lower dash delete and accessories.
Turbo bumper looks nice and the S split rear grille.
Then the base car cost as well.

Sorry I should have worded it better.....primarily I want it to drive but as I lack the knowledge around the 993s I dont want buy a car that's great to drive but when I come to sell it find it's not of interest to anyone because of the modifications etc. If so you will have a limited audience, but somewhere somewhen there will be another driver who wants a 993 to... drive.
Isn’t that the problem with many of these restomod, customised, frankenstein, cars.
Someone takes an old/high mileage example, that’s probably seen better days, may even have serious rust or accident damage, throws lots of money at it, and believes that expenditure has added the equivalent value.
Personally, I’d say there are safer and better ways to spend £80k on a Porsche, especially if resale is a consideration.

It'll be desirable depending on
But after 200k miles, what else needs replacing?

Not a lot judging by the write up at RPM.... and they are a respected outfit, looks great but its a bit 'triggers broom' for me.But after 200k miles, what else needs replacing?

LSD is what? Rebuilt OEM? Quaife?
G50-21 'short-ratio' gearbox is standard on a MY95, so has that been touched in 200k miles?
Who rebuilt the engine? What was replaced other than the 'sports cams'?
80k as mentioned above is the cost to get it to the current state. Value is another question.
Interesting indeed that it's on 8J all round... with 4x 225/45 tyres? Should be amusing amounts of oversteer.
If you are serious about the car OP, the next question is what else did they do to the suspension? Chucking on new springs and dampers is one thing, but the 993 has a complicated multi-link rear setup, with 6 or 8 (can't remember - Wozy? ) individual arms all of which I imagine would need replacing before 200k miles. Front is less complex but there are a few things to renew there as well.
PAS rack refurbished?
.... I could go on but there may, or may not, be a significant amount of stuff that needs doing after 200k, or it may have all been done.
As I said, the advert is short on useful words.

But is it any good to drive? My 993 always felt a bit slow witted. You'd need to do a lot to make a proper driver's car in my view to me that's key.
Agree mine seem to needed to be at NSL+ speeds before it came alive. My take is, as last of line 993, is always going to be more desirable as original as possible. I really like this car and would be great car for a friend to have so you can admire it, rag it a bit and not worry about what's lurking under the, admittedly pretty, skin
With £80k budget, a 996 GT3 is a much better proposition both as a drivers car and financially.
If you wanted resto/hot rod or go your own way modding, base C2 996 is a better starting point
I would personally go for a near standard car. A couple of months ago a car I knew a car which had kw suspension, cargraphic exhaust, full respray in polar silver and looked spot on was traded into Paul Stephens and sold immediately for £80k with only 80.000miles and to me it looked a lot nicer than this car!
