1990s H&P immobiliser - Ch3tman! Colt!
Discussion
I have the 'blade' immobiliser system from H&P, PA 100?, one of the blades' cases is broken, and the car recently stopped beeping, and the passenger door warning LED no longer flashes, though it still functions to immobilise the car.
The system has never had any remotes - all unlocking is done with the key.
As I am expecting to be stranded soon, and being aware of this recent thread.....
http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=129945
..... I would like to remove the H&P element and retain the factory alarm.
1) obviously I don't expect detailed instructions on how to do this on the interweb, but is it 'easy', in that once you have access to an un-alarmed car, you simply remove the H&P wires and boxes added when the car arrived in the UK?
2) if I do this, is there a factory immobiliser still in place?
Clearly the factory alarm would remain, which operates if anyone opens a door or the bonnet without unlocking the car first, and the horn goes off. I've done this by accident (bonnet open but lock 'down' whilst charging) and it works very well
Thanks, Porsche Classic people.

Morning OC, not sure Colt is on PH, but Pope, another guru, is! Maybe he can chime in .

After my PA2000 started playing up last month I am now considering a replacement alarm system. I use the car frequently, so retaining remote central locking is much desired. An alarm/immobiliser in addition can only serve to help - so long as it don't burden the battery of course! Here are the Thatcham Cat 1 systems that are applicable to our 'analogue' 993s:
Clifford Concept 650 MKIII
Sigma S30
Autowatch 457 RLi
Vodafone Cobra A4138HF
Toad Ai606T2 (largely discontinued)
I've spoken to 7 installers and 4 of them recommended the Clifford, the others leaning towards the Autowatch or the Vodafone/Cobra.

FYI I spoke with H&P last month and summarised the take aways on recent post; spells 'end of life' for our H&P PA1000/PA2000 systems:http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=129945

Help is on hand, if you're brave enough to take it on:http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=151312

Have spoken with a few installers in the past few weeks - who are au fait with 993 security and the H&P systems - the feedback was yes it's pretty straightforward (for them!) to see where cuts were made to the original loom to add the H&P kit, and is easy to remove. Believe any Cat1 system requires wiring to be black and look the same as factory wiring (or similar) so depending on how comfortable you are with electrics/wiring, it may not be so obvious....Orangecurry said:

To my very limited knowledge, I don't think so ( what action would engage it?), but I'm guessing...Orangecurry said:

You could then consider Tore's remote central locking kit which seemingly works nicely with the factory Porsche alarm system, although the alarm itself is rather basic and would only sound via the horn if the doors/bonnet were opened. You would lose the ultrasonics, interior monitoring, etc. that come with the H&P. After my PA2000 started playing up last month I am now considering a replacement alarm system. Comprehensive, as always - thanks.
Turning of the key *in the door lock* triggers on/off? But yes that seems unlikely.
I don't have any of that - I only have the immobiliser - which is why I want rid.
And T-lock is on the shopping list, but Tore says it's out of stock with no known restock date.

I have a couple of 911’s but on my 355 spider we started to have a similar issue (appreciate systems are different)
But after 3 hours work my auto electrician has pulled out three old trackers and two aftermarket alarm systems from the 90’s !!
Might be worth getting a good auto electrician to see what’s going on in there.

We are Chobham in Surrey and we have an excellent guy who does mostly work for Ferrari / Maserati Egham and joe Macari on al his cars as well as some private work.
The only thing that I would say is if you aren’t an expert (you may be) then if you trigger an old alarm it can be difficult to overcome

Hi OC
I recently pulled my H&P PA1000 out of my 993 and posted on 911UK. Primary motivation was that I really didn't trust either the system or the fobs to keep working.
I was a bit nervous but applying logic and following wires was much easier than I expected.
If you don't have key fobs (plus the auto window & roof shutters) that mine had then it will be a pretty simple job if it's installed like mine.
The standard Porsche Alarm and central locking unit worked perfectly on the key/door lock once the H&P was removed.
Finding and rectifying where the immobiliser element is cut into the original wiring was much easier than expected.
Happy to put up some pics and instructions if useful?
Do you have a decent garage/facilities to do the work?

Hey - I think I saw your posts when I recently did a internet-wide search on key terms - your thread was very helpful as it reinforced the steps I wish to take.
I'm not sure it's ideal to post up on a forum exactly where the immobiliser joins are, even on a 1990s car, but if you didn't mind sending them to my email addy, that would be great.
I have plenty of room to work on cars, but the recent low temps have meant I've been driving it (great heater) not dismantling so I was planning on doing the chop in the next few weeks.
