Hi folks ... I have a UK 76 911, though according to the Porsche build info it's a 77 model year - When I bought the car the seller told me that in 76 they didn't make an S variant... From what I can tell this doesn't appear to be true globally, as there looks to have definitely been a 911S on sale in the US in 76, I can't seem to find a definitive answer though as to if they made a 'rest of the world' S in 76 though.

It's not really important, just curious really and want to have my own facts straight - If any gurus have a definitive answer i'd certainly appreciate it.

Interesting this ... generally speaking there are US spec cars and RoW spec cars ...

At this time and for many years the US Spec cars were heavier and less powerful than the RoW cars due to catalytic converters, air injection for California ... etc.

According to my friend Peter Morgan ... I have read his book Porsche 911 (1964-1989) so many times !!
1975 ... RoW 911/ 911 Targa / 911 Sporto / 911S / 911S Targa / 911S Sporto
... US 911S US49 / 911S US49 Targa / US49 Sporto / then Cal / Cal targa / Cal Sporto .... so no non-S for the US

1976 ... RoW 911 / 911 Targa / 911 Sporto ... no 911S !
... US Only 911S US49 / US49 Targa / Cal / US Sporto / Cal US Sporto ...

1977 ... RoW 911 / 911 Targa
... US Only 911S US / US Targa / Cal / US Sporto

Plus 911 Carrera in each year ... in '75 2.7 similar to RS, in '76 and '77 3.0l

I owned a '74 911 from the US ... sold on the last day so non cat East Coast ... it had 150bhp. Aubergine with tan basket weave vinyl seats !

I also owned a UK '75 2.7 Carrera ... now that was a nice car, just like a 2.7RS Touring but with impact bumpers and cast aluminium rear suspension arms .... in Ice Metallic Green with a Russet wool interior ... smile

Thanks Chris, that's really very helpful indeed and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Turns out the seller was right then!

Mine is Ice Metallic Green :-) ... The interior is midnight leatherette with tweed inlay!

You are most welcome ... isn't it 'convenient' that the '70's are coming back into fashion ??

Now all I need is 45 years taking off my age smile

Saga Norén first appeared on our television screens in 2011, so I think the 70's resurgence in the mainstream has been around for a while.
