working out whats 'too much' is difficult.
I'd like 2wd and manual.

110k, recent ish clutch, cold aircon.
Any outside opinions from those who know the cars better than me.

Think you mean this?

Am no expert re prices, but it looks like a thing of beauty.
Have only had water cooled, but gather that the wide body 993s look the business, but are less fun to drive. However given how few and far good specimens of manual 2WD are likely to be I wouldn't let that put you off.
Have fun looking.

I read that the 2wd wide body was the pick of the bunch!? in c2s guise.

The point is that the extra width makes it heavier than the narrow body yet with no power bump on a 993 Carrera s or 4s.
They arguably do look even better than the narrow body cars.
You really need a proper independent inspection, it does look well looked after example from the photos but cosmetic is only part of the story...e.g. is it on knackered original suspension, is the engine dry or weeping, is the steering rack leaking, are the engine mounts in need of replacement and so on.
From the photos I'd want to look closer at the door sills...looks a bit dusty/dirty from the pic. This is an area over time where water and grime can gather causing rust to start developing. Check both front and rear scuttle for rust too, not just what you can see...but under the rubber too

I had a 993 for a decade. Black C4 with red leather previously featured in carpool on PH. I sold it at 72k a few years ago.
They are very pretty, charming and sound great. They are not the greatest thing to drive- not terrible but many other cars are more engaging.
They are massively expensive to own/run UNLESS you can do work on them yourself
OR you are myopIc about what is wrong with the car. I’ve seen some good 993’s and I have a good idea what it cost to get them and keep them that way.
Those spouting on about regular servicing being all that’s required haven’t had someone who knows what their doing go over their car. Many are happy on ignorance.
At 110k hopefully their are folders of invoices showing what’s been done. I’d wager there will be yet more that needs doing. Buy with caution.

Stunning to look at, but a bit medallion man/fur coat no knickers I my experience.
I think I'd be looking for a 2wd manual narrow body car which has been used and maintained by an owner on a "no expense spared" basis. You may be in for long wait and see a lot of disappointing cars in your search, but a good car, with fresh, well set up suspension, modern tyres and a driveline in rude health will be a lovely thing to own and drive.
Patience is, without a shadow of a doubt, a virtue, and as others have said, a PPi by someone who knows/understands ALL the foibles of the air cooled car cars well, will be critical.

Chassis leg corrosion
Weeping some oil. From somewhere
Graunchy change from 1st to 2nd
Clutch/flywheel
Tired baggy suspension
Corroded disc shield tinware/discs eating themselves feom inside out.
Rusty arms
Corrosion around windscreen
Worn interior
Nasty 2 tone interior especially of featuring blue which was apparently popular in Germany in the 90’s
Cloudy headlight lenses
Faded rear reflector
Plug leads looking threadbare
Aftermarket non period head unit
Most have gaps in service history as well often explained with - “Oh it was sorn for 5 years here” or something similar. Easy car to clock for those who are dishonest.
Really, buy with caution.

I have a very similar looking 4S in Iris blue. So full medallion man spec! Sorry Henry
As ever on PH some can be a little alarmist when advising on these cars. However, all said and done they are 25 years old now and were a VERY expensive car when new. It's to be expected to have to spend some money maintaining them. Mine has probably cost around £8 to £10k over the last 7 years of ownership which I don't think is too bad at all. And that's with an OPC! But I will echo the above and say its imperative to get a ppi from someone who knows these cars well.
I also have to disagree with the comment above about the average driving experience. I think the 993, like any air-cooled 911, is a very charismatic and engaging drive. Just took mine on track at the PCGB air-cooled day at Castle Combe and it was fantastic. The grip and on limit handling makes for enormous fun. I used to own a standard C2 and tbh there's not a huge difference in the driving experience. The C2 does feel a little lighter on its feet but conversely the wide bodied car feels a bit stiffer and better tied down.
Some of this maybe subjective but if you like the look of the C2S and it turns out to be a decent example then go for it! You won't look back!

All of the potential issues listed above may be true, but it's only money. And you only have to do these maintenance tasks 'once' - e.g. get the suspension set up correctly, and you'll love the car forever. Probably.
Only you can decide if it's worth the money.
As said, the pick of the bunch is the narrow bodied RWD. The wider hips on this one are IMHO somewhat overdone and underneath the suspension points/angles/etc are the same as the narrow cars, and wider offset rear wheels are the only changes to widen the track by 25mm each side
If you do buy it, change those hideous tyres or you'll be in the scenery on the first damp corner.
From the comfort of my Chesterfield, I'd say someone spent a lot of money on that car..... but a long time ago - it's now looking unloved.
Note the tequipment gearknob and handbrake, seriously expensive options, but look at the state of them. I'll bet a packet of crisps the Pirellis are more than 6 years old. The rear wiper arm looks broken (expensive), and one of the exhaust boxes is drunk (careless mechanic).....
All fixable as said, but for me the bits you can see are saying there may be (allegedly) one hundred other things need doing that you can't see - that will mean big bills and/or a long journey.
And have you driven a 993? Some people just don't get on with them, no matter how new everything is.

the other 'attractive' option(colour!). is an auto.

I’ve had several 993s, inc a C2 Coupe and C2 Cab both ordered new in the ‘90s to my spec. But, interestingly, the nicest 993 I ever drove was a NB C4 Coupe (6spd varioram).WBs are, however, considered desirable, but often by ‘collectors’, and they would normally want lower mileage.
I wouldn’t pay a premium for WB, I’d rather buy a better NB.
Not everyone ‘gets’ the older aircooled 911s and the novelty can wear off when running costs start rising, but for those who do (myself included), they remain one of the most charismatic and rewarding road cars - you just have to buy carefully.
BTW, Midnight Blue/Ocean Blue was very common on the NB 993s, but less common on the WBs - however it’s a pita to keep looking nice.

As a driving experience, they leave a lot to be desired I'm afraid.

Great cars, miss all of mine and will probably get another at some point. They are still quick cars, deceivingly so through the gears.
C2S and C4S perceived to be the pinnacle these days hence the prices, however, as said above, the C2 in the right colour / spec is brilliant.
Edit to add....this is another £10k, but to me if everything checks out...is worth every penny...

Ah yes, Arena red Apologies to any owners, I just think it's a very dated hue now, a bit like BMW Calypso red.

So many for sale with grey interiors, either that was the trend or the only option at the time.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105212...

I've owned 3 x 993's and I'd echo all of that. Especially re the blue paintwork, it really is very difficult to get it / keep it looking good and it can 'swirl' horrendously..
