Hello All,

I am currently considering my first air cooled Porsche - 1989 Carrera 3.2. Car is currently in Cornwall and I 100% want to have a pre-purchase inspection! Does anyone have any recommendations on a credible organization/individual to carry out this PPI? Car is being sold by WillamsCrawford.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers!

I do not think you need a PPI at Williams Crawford. They have a very good reputation and would not sell a lemon in my view.

Hi, unfortunately Cornwall is well outside Peter Mogan's coverage area. He was my first port of call!

I tend to agree that Williams Crawford have a good reputation.

I'd suggest you speak to them and see what they suggest, it must be common as they're quite remote.

My two options would be:

Option 1
Put down a deposit and then ask them to take it to a specialist (preferably an indie that knows the cars) on the agreement that you will buy if OK.

Option 2
Get agreement in writing, before buying it that you will get it checked by your own local specialist and that they will pick up an issues.

I'm sure William Crawford have indies who they get to do work for them for cars which are a long distance from Cornwall (I know other Indies do this).

They are top, a friend bought a car from them. On they way home the engine went wrong. They rebuilt it no quibble argument or hint that they wouldn't.

Having said that, I would get an inspection more so that you know what state the body and known rust points are like. Some of these can be hard to get at and get a good look at, so it is worth knowing.

Is Crispin Manners still down that way or Bert Gear?

Here you go.

Crispin Manners - Oaktree Garage, Newton Poppleford, Sidmouth, Devon
Tel. No: 01395 568498

Andy Moss – Honiton, Devon
Tel. No: 07762 244477

Martin Reed - Cladavin, Barnstaple, North Devon
Tel. No: 01271 375696

I will vouch for any one of these .

Better to be safe with a comprehensive PPI .

Just buy the thing and enjoy it.

If it's from Adrian Crawford then the car will be right. A more decent fellow you couldn't find in the Porsche world IMO

It will also help in the resale value that he supplied it.

Still advise a comprehensive PPI.

Thanks very much All!

Unfortunately someone has already beaten me to it and purchased the vehicle! So the hunt continues!

Anyone have a view on how much you should be paying for a good example of a Carerra 3.2? Looks some jokers are asking for £40k+!

Its a shame as their car would have been a goodun. You can pick up excellent 3.2 from £20k upwards. Do not be put off mileage - buy a rust free car

edited to say this one looks spot on
