Hi everyone,
I might have the chance of buying some project 911s with a mate, and I need to get an idea of values. I have so far only seen photos, but they are basically unfinished projects with no information of what may or may not have already been done, so for the sake of valuations at this point, I would treat them as ‘for restoration’.
Car 1 is a LHD 964 Carrera 4 Coupe, bumpers, sill covers, headlights and wheel arch liners appear to be missing but otherwise looks complete.
Car 2 is a 1993 LHD 964 Cabriolet, for restoration. As far as I know, complete.
Car 3 is either an SC or a 3.2 Carrera RHD Cabriolet, engine, transmission, bumpers, seats and carpets missing.
All of the missing parts may be obtainable but for initial valuation I am going to assume they are missing for good.
There is another Coupe, a rolling shell, but I don’t know the details of this one yet, think it might be mid 70s.
Although we are not dealers, we would be selling these cars on as projects, so would need to make a small profit to cover costs.
If we can get an idea of the value of a 'for restoration' car then that gives us a starting point.

Thanks

Hi, I don't know how clued up you are on 911s, especially the 964 but I think that old motorsport saying covers it quite well. If you want to make a small fortune from it, start with a large one. wink

Always cheaper to buy a good car, unless you're mega handy and simply must experience the "journey".

Good luck though. Great cars.

I don't expect to make a fortune out of it, not even a small one. We've been offered these cars by someone who has inherited them and has no interest in them.
Trouble is, you don't see 911s 'for restoration' like you see other more 'run of the mill' cars so it's difficult to know where to start on values.
I don't like to see cars broken for spares, I like to see them go to owners or companies who will rebuild them.
I don't need any more projects for myself, I already have an old 911 in full flow.

I'd say completely impossible to value without quite a lot of detailed info. If you are just buying to sell on, why don't you do it on commission?
BTW I don't think Marky was referring to you making a small fortune, more like losing one.

Based on that info (and an assumption that what is there is basically sound) I'd say they should be worth these minimums:
1. £4k
2. £4k
3. £2k

This is because they should break for more. If the engines won't run at all on the first two then I may have been a bit generous. I'd be amazed if you're able to find buyers for all 3 who will restore rather than break them, unless they're much nicer than it sounds so far.

Goose is about right.

You could easily spend double their final worth making them good.

I completely understand where you are coming from guys.
It's just such a shame to see a car broken for it's parts.
We won't be rushing into anything.

I got an update from my friend about these cars last night (he is in direct contact with the seller), and unfortunately, the seller keeps changing his mind, and is now considering which cars to sell and which to keep.
Thanks for your replies and interest, I will, of course keep you up to date with any progress.

Regards

Simon

Try to get a chassis number from car number 4 (Mid 70's coupe rolling shell.)

I'd also be interested in Car #1 if it becomes available.

It looks like you'll have no trouble shifting these if you get the chance to! smile

At £6K+ I think you'll be waiting a long time for a reply from the OP

I'd also be interested in one of either 964's..... I clearly don't have enough projects at the moment laugh

Seriously, I'd be very interested should they be offered for sale. I'm looking for a long term project as my son is really keen to learn about car restoration and I'm keen to teach him before I kark it
